My wife and I recently took our first trip to Charleston for our 14th Wedding Anniversary. The hotel was clean, well appointed, conveniently located and everything I had hoped after booking it online. However, what impressed me the most was the staff. While most people rave about the Concierge services (which were impressive) I will reserve my praise for the ladies at the front desk and for the house keepers. They all were incredibly warm and vocal. They always greeted us, always smiled and made us feel genuinely welcomed. If we walked down the hall and rooms were open being cleaned, the housekeepers would say hello to us from within the room while we simply passed by. I was very impressed.

The pinnacle for us was that the girl at the check in desk (Melea?) took time to ask about our trip and what brought us to Charleston. She discovered it was for our anniversary and unbeknownsdt to us, upgraded our room (significantly) while we were standing there talking. When we went to check in we found ourselves in a high-level, corner suite after anticipating a standard double queen room. We were blown away. The next day we received some drinks and chocolates in our room complete with a Happy Anniversary Card. I'm certain this isn't something they always do or are able to do but I must admit, it made a HUGE impression. We did not ask nor would I have even known to ask for any special treatment. We were and are so very grateful.

A huge impression was made on us by the staff and by this hotel. We were both blessed and impressed and look forward to a return visit.

Dear Nwsmith,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a wonderful review of your experience with us here in Charleston. While our concierge services are impressive, it is our operations team of housekeeping and the front desk that help constantly exceed our guests' expectations. We will definitely be sharing your review with our staff at our daily meeting and making sure they understand just how impactful the service they give is to our guests.

Malea Taylor, our Front Desk Supervisor, is an incredible asset to our hotel and always comes to work with a positive attitude and uses her personality to light up the Front Desk. It is great to hear that she took such great care of you all on your Anniversary and we hope you will make it an annual trip to Charleston for this occasion.

We look forward to seeing you next year!

Sincerely,
Grant Hoskins

This hotel is in a perfect location - right at a bus stop for the free shuttle, and in the historic district, walking distance to the newer restaurants north of historic area. The concierge, Kevin, is amazing and full of wonderful and unique knowledge about Charleston. He is a huge asset to this hotel - I would book there again just to be able to pick his brain about restaurants and things to do in town. The other hotel staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and responsive. The hotel has a heated pool and a wonderful workout facility as well as seating areas in the both the front and back of the hotel which are great places to relax.

Room Tip: We were near the elevators and overlooking the pool and had no issues at all with noise.

Dear Cindsrose,

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay with us here in Charleston.

Our location is right in the middle of King Street shopping, any type of restaurant you could ask for, and enough history to keep you occupied for days on end. We are glad you were able to enjoy the free trolley that picks up in front of our hotel and offers access to even more locations throughout the city. Our hotel was designed to have a large amount of common areas all throughout the hotel and it seems you were able to take advantage of these and get some time to relax.

Kevin is always willing to talk about the restaurants of Charleston and we will look forward to your next trip!

Sincerely,
Grant Hoskins

A perfect location, friendly staff, great food and drinks, and then there is Kevin, the Concierge. Words cannot adequately describe what he does for guests - he has his own personalized maps, contacts everywhere, and can get you a table at any restaurant in the city. It is worth a trip to Charleston to have him help you find your way.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel faces the street - somewhat noisy when the firetrucks go by in the middle of...

Dear cweave02000,

Thank you for staying with us on your trip from Georgia and for being a Senior Reviewer on TripAdvisor.

Our Bistro Restaurant is a great place to enjoy a delicious breakfast sandwich or freshly baked muffin in the morning as well as one of our eight local beers on tap in the evening. We are glad you were able to enjoy its convenience right in our lobby and the friendly staff crafting up our signature cocktails. I would agree that it is hard to put Kevin's abilities into words and he is definitely who you want to see when visiting Charleston.

Thank you for your business!

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Marriott. We were able to easily walk to most locations in Charleston and the rooms were quiet and comfortable. The eating area downstairs was convenient and reasonably priced. The only negatives were (1) as there wasn't a separate service elevator, there were times that the wait was quite long, and (2) the room had a slight musty odor. We'll be back, as these were minor, but it was enough to dock the rating a point.

Dear ama_4327,

Thank you for your feedback and for staying with us on your visit from Maryland.

It is great to hear that your found our hotel to be a solid choice and really enjoyed dining in our Bistro Restaurant. I apologize about any inconvenience you encountered with our elevators during your stay. Wedding parties, families, and corporate groups can sometimes slow down service when they travel to locations at the same time and all use the elevator system at once. We do offer three separate staircases throughout the building as an alternate option as well. Our housekeeping team will address the odor you experienced in your room so that this does not occur again.

We hope you will join us for your next couples vacation here in Charleston.

Sincerely,
Grant Hoskins

We love this hotel. The room was nice and the staff was excellent. It was clean and they serve Starbuck's in the lobby! Even though it was kind of crowded Memorial Day weekend, we still had room to spread out and enjoy our family in the evening and our daughter loved the pool. It was within walking distance to downtown Charleston, and we even had plenty of parking on site. The people were friendly and knowledgeable of the area.

Room Tip: Ask for the larger room, it will be worth the money.

Our staff really appreciates the glowing review you gave them and we will definitely make sure they are recognized for the experience they created for you. If you like courtyards and I do this is a great choice in the area. Its more upscale than the usual courtyard with a small outdoor pool and some rooms with balconies. Expansive lobby and porch area ... One block over from king street shopping. Bistro has bar and healthy limited menu. Rooms larger than most.

The rooms were enormous and the staff was extremely friendly. The bathrooms were enormous as well. The rooms are extremely modern and the hotel is within walking distance from all of the bars and restaurants in downtown Charleston. We asked the Front Desk for a cab service when we checked out and they were more than helpful.

The coffee shop in the lobby was great and the breakfast options and dinner options were awesome. I will definitely return to this hotel when I come back to Charleston.
