This is a very nice Hampton Inn in a great location and well managed from top to bottom. We spent a Friday and Saturday weekend in late October and the weather was a bit chilly but the location is near everything so we walked or took the free Trolley Cars. The lobby is fantastic and the outdoor garden is huge and beautiful but was too cold for eating breakfast outside. The Parking Deck is $12 a day but right next to the hotel and you can go in and out without penalty but it gets pretty full later in the day.
I had called a day ahead and asked for an early check-in and quiet room and when we arived Casey had taken care of everything. Had a great room on the fifth floor and did not hear any noise the entire time. The room was recently updated and the only thing that was not perfect was the heat and A/C which took a while to adjust but did have a digital wall thermostadt for controling the temperature and was quiet. Nice flat screen TV and only gets analog signals but had ESPN and ESPN2 for a few minutes of college football games.
The morning breakfast is well set up and nice variety of eggs, sausage, waffles, breads, fruit etc. Again the staff was accomodating and helpfull.
There is a Bell Captain, I did not get his name, and he was helpful in getting news and directions to Sullivan's Island for a drive over the 2 mile bridge and visit to Fort Moultrie, a State Park site. We ate at the Coast Bar and Grill Friday which is less than a block away and liked it so much we ate there again on Saturday. A lot of restaurants and shopping close by. We plan on visiting again and will stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ice vending machines next to the elevator so would stay away from that area if possibe for quiet roo...

We stayed five nights at this hotel and we loved it. The service was excellent, as were the people working there. Our room was always spotless and well taken care of. The hotel was quiet, even though it was located in a busy area facing the Visitors Bureau and Charleston Museum. Unfortunately, the only negative thing I have to say was the orangeade and grapefruit drink they served at breakfast, even though it was clearly labeled "juice". It was not juice by any stretch of the imagination. Too bad -- I cannot understand why they would try to save on "juice" while everything else was very good. Nevertheless, I would definitely stay there again -- a quiet, friendly, quiet place that felt like home for the shortr stay in the wonderful city of Charleston.

Planning a Charleston SC trip, I was somewhat apprehensive about staying in the historic district, because I knew parking was at a premium. It just so happens, that The Hampton Inn in the historic Charleston District is located right in front of a parking garage. The room was very nice and clean, the breakfast was very good, and the location is quite convenient to many of the shops and restaurants, which were in easy walking distance. Further, the trolley came right by the hotel. All things considered, the price was reasonable. This is an excellent choice for those wanting to stay in the historic area. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We always request a room not near elevators, vending machines, or exits.

My husband and I stayed here for a mini vacation. The location is across from the visitor center. The Hampton is a standard Hampton hotel. Extremely clean, very quite, full hot breakfast, free Wifi, desktop computers provided for guest use, pool, exercise room, vending machines. The free Charleston historic downtown trolley has a stop across the street by the visitor center. The breakfast is very good. It is a great way to start the day. The staff added extra tables in the morning so everyone could sit down and eat their breakfast. I greatly appreciate the extra effort the staff made for their guest.

The room has the standard fair. A desk, a dresser, lap desk to use your laptop while in bed, full length mirror, chair, two night stands and the famous white Hampton comforter. I always sleeps wonderfully at a Hampton.

The hotel had a broken pipe while we stayed at the hotel. A sign of a good staff and property is how they handle bad situation. They did amazing. I am sure the hotel was sold out and they had a ton of people in the lobby complaining but they all had a smile on their faces and tried to help the best they could.

The hotel provided bottled water while the repair were taking place. It wasn't fun staying in a hotel without water but I think they did a great job. Issues will happen. The repair was completed in a matter of hours and life when back as normal. It was bad timing for me as I wanted to take a shower before going to dinner but you know what the fact that they had bottle water on hand and kept us up to date on the repairs speaks volumes.

The hotel is in walking distance if you are willing to do the walking. If not, the trolley is a good alternative. A pedi cab is about $6 per person to this hotel from East Bay Street. It is not a problem to find one at night. I recommend taking the trolley down and a pedi cab back if it is after 9pm.

Yes, there are hotels closer to the action but that location will cost you. I found this to be a perfect for how much I was willing to pay and the fact that it isn't that far out of the action. Thank you for a wonderful stay and when we come back to Charleston we will stay here.

When I walk into this Lovely Hotel and am greeted by smiling Henry or welcoming Curtis, I feel right at home. Friendly and helpful Emily,Megan,Casey or Manager Kevin give your next warm welcome at check-in and are available to answer questions about the area as well as resturant choices. We proceed to our newly renovated, sparkling clean room. We are warmly greeted on the way by Mary who is cheerful and busy making preparations for other guests. We are able to walk from the hotel to King St and then to Broad St where we toured the Old Customs House. We discover something new every time we visit this Beautiful City! Breakfast is served by Barbara and Kathleen. It is amazing how calm, sweet and friendly these lovely ladies are with so many guests to make such a nice breakfast for. Ken and his team work maintain the hotel to keep it beautiful and up to date. The courtyard is private with a nice pool. This Hotel is our very Favorite. The staff always exudes Southern Hospitality!

Typical Hampton. Reliable. Rooms fine, good beds and large baths. Quite a hike to the center of the historic district, however. If you get s decent price it is worth it. There are free trolleys that run around the area. The price is less than hotels closer to the center
