“Fire place now clean.”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

Message to reviewer five down who commented on the dust around the fire place. As we speak it is been cleaned so fear not the management do listen. We stayed here seven years ago and returned to walk around downtown , be amazed by the beautiful historic houses and dine in the local restaurants.
However it is -6c at the moment and the only thing we want to do is sit by this amazingly clean fire place (thanks to previous reviewer)
Other points about the hotel our room 532 fifth floor is non smoking however room across the hall is smoking and we can smell the smoke in the hall. Beds very comfy, bathroom small but adequate ,TV flat screen but slow in switching channels.
Lounge area vast , clean, ample free tea, coffee, hot chocolate, apples, bananas, news papers sitting areas, fitness centre and office suit with free internet access. Staff all smiling and helpfull.
Parking $16 at the hotel. Don't hold me to this but in our last stay we parked in the visitors centre across the street . It is attended 7.45 am to 2am , so if you take a ticket on entry and exit before 7.30 am it should be unattended and the barriers we hope lifted so no one to pay. I'll find out tomorrow and will edit if different .
Otherwise it's a fine hotel very central to downtown and good value .

If you asked us to describe the Hampton Inn in the historic district at Charleston, SC, we would say, "Wonderful place to stay!" We visited Charleston the week after Christmas with our family and the hotel staff and amenities made our trip perfect. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff went out of their way to be helpful, and when you encountered any of the staff they gave you a genuine smile. That was something you do not see a lot of anymore. We watched the staff set up extra tables in the lobby to accommodate everyone eating breakfast at the same time. The location was convenient, one block from King Street where we found several restaurants we enjoyed. If we go back to Charleston, we would definitely want to stay at the Hampton Inn Historic District.

the hotel does not have adequate heating. this january the temperature in charleston dropped to freezing. our hotel room got cold. cranking up the thermostat to 75 did nothing. the heater continued to blow room temperature air. brought up the problem at the reception. they promised to look into it, but nothing changed...
part of the problem might be that the hotel is in an old building so that all the utilities outdated. their plumbing also leaves to wish for better... shower leaks, water pressure jumps...
disappointing...

I was so very sorry to see that you had a less than excellent time at our hotel. It is our goal that you leave Charleston with not only fond memories about our beautiful city, but having the same about our hotel and staff. Perhaps you can reach out to me personally so I can see if I can make this a better experience for you and that you will come back to stay with us time and time again.

Thanks for taking the time to write your review and thanks in advance for your call later.

We stayed two nights with teenaged daughters a week before Christmas. We had a lovely ground floor room w/ a French door to the courtyard which was a treat. The room was very comfy, clean and roomy for the 4 of us. It was a close to good food, shopping and photo ops but set just back from the boistrous noise of the city proper. Market Street is a pleasant walk from the hotel and we also enjoyed the neighboring park w/ its holiday lights at night.
One oddity: We left our room at 7am to return at 2 pm. One daughter got in the tub and the other wanted a nap after all that exploring. That is when housekeeping finally showed up to clean! She was clearly annoyed with us inconveniencing her and although we convinced her to leave and come back later, the nap was a bomb knowing someone could come knocking again at any minute. I had also brought back a partial bottle of wine from our dinner the night before, and no one would find me a glass to drink it out of. Had to go buy one.
The breakfast was substantial, varied and very good, as was the unlimited coffee. All in all, it was a great escape and we look forward to coming back to the Hampton Inn in the historic distric for a longer stay.

This is a terrific hotel for seeing the sights in Charleston! Nice large rooms, well appointed and terrific staff. Walking distance to all you want to see. The parking garage is right next door, as is the visitor center and the free shuttle that covers the entire historic district.

My husband and I stayed two nights ....New Years Eve time....wonderful old hotel full of history, well maintained....lovely complimentary breakfast in the lovely common lobby area. A big plus for us was a fresh duvet cover, not always the case in hotels....very much appreciated.
We enjoyed wonderful area restaurants and shops. We loved the southern hospitality.
Would love to return to Charleston and this hotel

This was a return trip to this location, we have stayed there many times. We love the location and in general it was an okay visit. It just seemed that some small things needed more attention. Wrote a message on the soot covered fireplace surround because it needed to be cleaned. The night front desk person did not seem too interested in anything but staring at the computer, and I presume was playing games. Had to ask for hot water, and one evening there was no decaf coffee and no attempt by staff to correct this.. Also saw a "big" roach in the lobby area.
