My wife, toddler-age son, and I spent two nights here. The front desk staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. When we arrived, there were trucks taking up space in the unloading zone, trying to unload items for the building next door. This meant we had to park in the parking deck and unload from there, but the staff offered someone to help us (which we declined, but appreciated). We had asked for a crib (they have pack and plays), and when we got to our room, we were concerned that with the pack and play, we wouldn't have much space in the room. I went down to the desk and the manager on duty, Casey, assured me that there would be plenty of room, yet still offered us a corner room instead, which was larger and perfect for what we needed. He and another front desk staffer (I think her name was Raven) helped us out a good deal more during the rest of our stay.

The rooms are clean, the staff friendly, the breakfast is pretty good for your basic hot continental breakfast, and the location is within walking distance of the Market, historic sites, the aquarium (absolutely go to the aquarium - it's worth the price and your time!), and is across the street from the visitor center.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are slightly larger if you're looking for a basic king-size room.

This hotel checked all the right boxes. The location was perfect, the rooms were spacious, and the breakfast was above average. I almost did not book here due to the hotels sad looking picture, that did not due the building justice. Totally enjoyed my stay.

First, the good. The room was clean, although the furniture was on the tired side. The bed was comfortable and there was very little motion transfer, which is good because my husband is very tall and moves a lot when he sleeps. It was quiet, even though we were on the first floor. The front desk staff was very nice and knowledgeable about the area. There is a lovely French bistro, Rue de Jean, two doors down, and the Charleston Music Hall is next door, so if you're in town to see a show there (as we were), you don't have to go far.

Now, for the bad. This was kind of a last-minute trip so everything else in town was booked, otherwise we would have stayed closer to the waterfront, as it was almost a mile each way to get to most of the bars and restaurants. That's fine to do once a day, but not when you're dressed for dinner, wearing heels, etc. So, we ended up taking cabs a lot, even though we had a car, because we didn't want to have to worry about parking. On our last day we discovered the trolley that goes from the Visitor's Center across the street from the hotel to the aquarium and the Fort Sumter ferry, which is a good option for day trips.

Our room overlooked a parking lot, which would have been fine except that it was on the exact same level as the parking lot, so we were looking directly at the front end of a car. We had to leave our drapes closed the whole time. Also, there were no actual glasses or coffee mugs in the room, only paper cups wrapped in plastic. When we asked at the front desk one night, they did give us some wine glasses. But at $700 for two nights, we shouldn't have had to ask for real glasses. The breakfast was ok, but again: styrofoam plates, plastic cutlery, and paper cups, which made it feel like a cheap motel. Also, it's wasteful.

Great time of year is October. Need a small umbrella on hand. If you are average weight the bike taxis are great. Loved this city and want to return. Architecture, taking photos, food and jewelry were some of my favorites.

We stayed recently in one of the ground floor rooms with two double beds; the room opens out onto the grass, about 15 ft from the (unheated) pool. We found the hotel very good value - the front desk staff were very helpful and when we had a small problem opening our door (our fault), the maintenance man was there within minutes to solve the problem. All staff seemed smiling and helpful.
The free breakfast was standard Hampton Inn but generous and well stocked with fresh fruit and waffles, boiled eggs, several kinds of toast/english muffins and bagels, as well as some southern specialities. Only complaint would be that the orange and apple juices were a bit watery!
The room was comfortable and we loved being close to the pool, which was a godsend on two hot days during our visit.
We also liked the fact we could get in from the airport on the Nash Express for $3 a person, one way, a regular bus service which dropped us right opposite the hotel, at the Charleston Visitors center. That is also a major stop for the free trolleys you can use to tour Charleston (the trolleys, btw, never stick to a schedule, so don't count on them arriving on schedule). The Visitors center also has lots of discounted tickets for various plantations, carriage rides, etc - very helpful. So the hotel's location was great - not in the middle of downtown but an easy walk to the main sites, or a short trolley ride away. We also tried two restaurants on the same street as the hotel which came recommended in various guides and magazines - Rue St Jean, and Coastal - both good meals. The gelato place next door is also worth a visit!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms facing the pool are very comfortable and not noisy.

We've been to Charleston several times, short notice trip on Easter weekend so our options were limited(hotels on this "high" weekend require a 2 night minimum). I was not expecting too much since usually "historic" indicates small and mildew smell /e close to the water. Hotel did NOT smell, bed was plush, however rooms were very small/coffee maker was in the bathroom, for $400 a night docor was outdated(make sure to include the very high hotel taxes in your budget). The main reason I would not stay is the distance to lower Charleston, too far to walk in a hurry, so for this hotel's $16 daily parking, I had to spend 30 minutes looking for a parking spot- and ended up paying another fee to park near restaurants(it was raining & I have difficulty walking far). Next time, back to Patriots Point Hampton

Room Tip: dumpter under our window about 1am

Thank you so much for your business and taking the time to review our hotel. I do apologize that you had problems with the parking. Unfortunately being a Downtown Hotel, there really aren't very many options. As noted though, Patriots Point Hampton Inn does have convinient parking available. Should you decide to come stay in Charleston again, please feel free to contact me to see if there is something I can do to sway your thoughts of staying with us again. We appreciate your business and patronage of the Hampton Inn chain.

We were very satisfied with our recent stay at the Hampton Inn in the historic district of Charleston. We wanted to be able to walk around the historic district to shop and visit great restaurants. The hotel location was great for that purpose. The free city shuttle with a stop across the street from the hotel was extremely convenient. Our room was clean and well appointed, the staff were very friendly, and the included breakfast was more than adequate. We requested a quiet room and were well accommodated (except for the noise from the a/c fan). We would definitely stay there again, especially as the price was reasonable compared to other hotels in the historic district.
