“Historic Building, Excellent location, Hampton Inn Historic District”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

If you are hoping to score points for a romantic getaway weekend the Hampton Inn brand won't help. Instead, book a quaint, old, hotel and experience the charm of history. However, you won't find an unwelcome surprises with this Hampton Inn. It's an old historic building but they have renovated to the standards of what you expect from Hampton Inn - including the same included breakfast served all over the US. Great bed, large flat screen, updated bathroom with dependable water service, business center and your standard converted large hotel room / workout room on the ground floor. There is a nice outdoor pool as part of the large shaded patio and lawn fenced off from the foot traffic, horse drawn carriages, and trolleys of Historic Charleston. Front desk and servers could not be nicer. One block from the hippest part of C-ton on King Street with the newest bars and restaurants in town and nicely away from the heart of the tourist zone. Short walk to all of the attractions of Charleston.

The Hampton Inn is always reliable, comfy and nice. The location is great! Being a 20 minute walk from every place we wanted to go was perfect. And if you're into shopping and eating, well you're less than a block away from King St. We only took our car to go to the beach for the afternoon. There was a parking garage that you pay a flat $30.00 extra that was right next to the hotel. That was the only connection it had to the hotel. Otherwise parking was on your own. The hotel didn't mention this when we booked. Other reviewers mentioned it so we weren't caught off guard. Enjoy the Holy City!

The Hampton Inn in Charlestons Historic District was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. It was so quiet and peaceful, it felt as if we were the only people staying there. It was close enough to walk to most of the tourist sights, and if you didn't feel like walking, there is a trolly stop across from the hotel. The complimentary breakfast was wonderful, and everything was fresh and tasty. If you go away hunger, it is your own fault. The hotel has a lovely outdoor sitting area near the pool which we took advantage of after a long day of walking around town and to enjoy while having breakfast. Plenty of restaurants and shops near by as well. The front desk personnel gave spot on recommendations for good restaurants. We would definitely stay here again!!

We were in town for our niece's wedding. I selected this hotel even before the plans were finalized since we are Hilton members and we had two rooms to book, an expensive proposition in Charleston. I have stayed in many Hampton Inns, but this one was one of the best in terms of location, breakfast area, outdoor amenities (pool, outdoor seating, and even a corn cob game), fitness center (small, but sufficient), centrally located business center and service. The breakfast area was elegantly decorated in 'Charleston' style and had a very wide variety of food choices- hot and cold- typical of many Hampton Inns. There were plenty of seating options- small tables, medium and large tables, high-tops or outdoor seating. Food seemed to be replenished throughout the posted times.
The front desk was very helpful upon arrival. The only complaint we have was when my daughter's boyfriend was locked out of his room, there was no one to be found for over 20 mins to help him gain access. Granted it was around 11:30 pm, but still no excuse for a Saturday evening.
My request for a first floor room with outside access was fulfilled for one of my rooms. This was AWESOME!!! We could sit outside our room day or night and fully enjoy the beautiful Charleston weather (its been a tough winter in the Northeast). Just perfect. The other room was probably one of the worst in the hotel, but my twenty-something daughters didn't seem to mind, at least in the beginning. I think most people would be VERY unhappy in their room (the window faced the parking lot --major privacy issues day or night, the door was right next to a hotel employee service area with lots of action, and it was at a main thoroughfare). All in all they managed!
Onto the location...probably their justification for the outrageous prices for a Hampton Inn. The hotel is truly steps away from King Street...the main shopping, restaurant, bar ......thoroughfare. For us, the added convenience of being literally around the block from the wedding which was held at the Aiken House really was the cherry on top of the icing! It was also 'two doors' down from an alley way where a couple of nice restaurants are. We enjoyed Coast, but there are at least two others.
I definitely would stay here again! Just remember that in the end it really is a nice Hampton Inn and if you are looking for elegant and unique, you should really stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor that has a patio.

Highly recommend this hotel. It is central, has great service and isclean and comfortable. Particularly liked the shaded patio where you can sip coffee in the evening or have your breakfast in the morning. (Both included in the price of the room.)

Hint not related to the hotel: There isn't a really open view to the water from the top of the Venue.

Very convenient-across street from where tours all depart.

Right up from King Street with great restaurants.

Not cheap--comparable to others, but clean, nice staff and good parking for downtown Charleston

It was a great place to visit. Lots of fun with specialty artisans. The marketplace is under roof so even if the weather is rainy it is a great experience. The area seafood was good. Especially the raw oysters. It is an easy walk-around-town. The trolley is super. Hop on hop off. Very convenient and free. Come for a visit. It will not disappoint.
