I've stayed there numerous times and the hosts are friendly, helpful and really interesting. It's a quiet and beautiful place to stay and the owners make you feel special. I highly recommend it. Herb Walters

Room Tip: Don't have one. Ask the owners. They'll be honest.

My daughter and I stayed here for several days and really had a lovely experience. The comfortable room made us feel at home. The owners were very hospitable and helped us plan interesting outings. We appreciated the off street parking and it made it very easy to unload our suitcases into the room. There is easy walking access to the city. I would stay here again!

If you want an affordable place to stay and want to be on your own, this is a great choice. Sometimes sitting with strangers for breakfast can be fun and sometimes it can be off-putting when all you want to do is have breakfast and be a tourist. Because there's no breakfast served the inn is reasonably priced, the rooms are charming if not luxurious, the location is an easy walk to downtown (and there are loads of places for coffee and breakfast on the walk), the gardens around the house are beautiful, and our stay was pleasant and hassle-free. There is only one bathroom for the two rooms, but that's better than a lot of bed and breakfasts, and it never became an issue for us. Solid recommendation.

My husband and I stayed at Merhaven on a recent trip to Charleston. We really liked a having a quiet, neighborly place to stay. Ayal is a perfect host - helpful and friendly. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, and the location is quite convenient for walks around town. The house is charming with a nice, quiet yard for relaxing. Price is quite reasonable.

Horrendous experience. My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights and it was miserable. First off, the owners did not clean the room once and the (shared) bathroom was flithy. Had to call just to get it cleaned at all. Place is very overpriced, paid over $100 a night to stay in what is more simular to a hostel than a bed and breakfast. Walls are thin, the owner yelled at us for watching The Office at night...banged on our door and left a passive aggressive note. Overall, nightmare of a stay. PS-this place isn't even a licensed bed and breakfast....should be forced to change their name as it's clearly misleading.

My wife, 2 daughters, mother-in-law, and I stayed here for 5 nights in July 2012. Ayal's directions were very specific and we let ourselves in easily. There was free parking for our rental car. We reserved both rooms, so it was our own little suite. My wife, younger daughter, and I stayed in the Cypress room. My wife and I slept on the queen bed, which was very comfortable. We were afraid that our younger daughter was going to roll off her daybed, so we were happy that there is a pull out trundle bed under the daybed for the little one to use. The first 3 nights my older daughter slept on the twin bed and my mother-in-law slept on the queen bed in the Jasmine room. For a change of scenery on nights 4 and 5, my older daughter moved into the Cypress room with us and slept on the day bed. There was enough room for the four of us in the Cypress room. All the beds are comfy and both bedrooms and the bathroom are spotlessly clean. I enjoy drinking a cup of coffee in the mornings and that was provided (tea was also available). There is a Rite Aid one block away so we were able to pick cereal, milk, drinks, and detergent there. There is a coin operated laundry a few blocks away, so we were able to pack less clothes for our trip. There is a playground right across the street that our daughters greatly enjoyed. There is a small refrigerator with water in it you can purchase; we also put our milk and other cold drinks in there. The courtyard is spacious and gorgeous!
Since this is a "Bed No Breakfast," meals are the guests' responsibility. This was fine with us. Every morning we ate our cereal in the courtyard, in front of a beautiful fountain and nice wrought iron rocking chair. The hosts are very creative people. We enjoyed reading their books and admired their art. Finally, the price was very attractive compared to local alternatives! I highly recommend the Merhaven Bed No Breakfast.
Matt and family

We stayed here two nights in April and found it to be perfectly adequate. Not much charm or amenities but the price is very modest, it's clean, there's a parking space, and the location is quite convenient for walking in town. There is one shared bathroom for the two guest rooms, fine with us.. We followed directions for paying and accessing room and had only a brief interaction with the owner. It's just a place to sleep...but that was all we wanted.
