This hotel is out on the edge of the historic district, in a area where buildings are being demolished (or falling down). The view out the window was discouraging when we first arrived. However, a walk down Meeting Street brings you to the Museum Mile in a few short blocks, and walking over to King Street brings you to blocks and blocks of restaurants, shops and bars, all located in attractive and well maintained old buildings. Service at this hotel is excellent and the staff is outstanding.

Room Tip: Don't waste your money on a balcony room - the view from the balcony is awful.

Thank you for sharing your comments following your recent visit. The building which you refer to is actually being restored and a luxury condominium being built. In Charleston any building built with brick that is over seventy five years old can not be demolished and the existing brick must be maintained.
On closing, I am glad you enjoyed your visit and received the guest experience we strive to provide.
Thank you.

Nice hotel with great service located only about a 15 minute walk from the main downtown area. The walk to the historic district is easy and you pass a lot of shops and restaurants along the way if you walk along king street. Everything was clean, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the pool was basic but nice.

Stayed here last week because we couldn't get a good rate nearer to the french quarter. Property and the hotel rooms a very good. Only draw back is it takes 20 minutes to walk to market street. While it advertises as historic downtown, it is a little on the fringe of the historic downtown area. Cab ride to market street was about $10 dollars ($9 one day $12 the next, go figure). If you don't mind the walk, or taking a cab, this hotel is well worth the money. Great bartender, friendly and professional (they even got us some food at 4:00 pm even though the kitchen didn't open until 5:00.

We appreciate you sharing your opinion following your recent stay.
We are located in an area of Downtown which I am sure you noticed is undergoing a transformation, and as you kindly pointed out, a very economic alternative to the more expensive hotels located nearer the Market and French Quarter.
The inconsistency in your cab fares is strange. A good option is to use the complimentary trolley which stops directly across the road from the hotel and runs every twenty minutes, to and from the Battery and center of the Historic District.
On closing, I am delighted you liked the hotel, and I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back on any return visit.
Thank you.

We stayed at this hotel on New Year's Eve after returning from a cruise. What a wonderful experience! It all started from the moment we drove up, from the valet parking attendant to the check in process. Everyone was so friendly and helpful! It gets better. Our room was beautiful, spacious and clean. Food in the restaurant was good as well. Each and every time we saw a staff member, we were greeting with a smile and kind word. Will definitely recommend to friends!

The location was very good for experiencing a more up and coming side of Charleston. Obviously there are locations much more convenient to the Historic District but this hotel's location was great for us. We were able to walk down King street and be in the shopping district in about 15-20 minutes. There are many newer restaurants and bars around the hotel. Try the Rarebit for brunch and The Ordinary is literally steps away.

The service we received here was great. Nicole at the front desk was very nice and quite helpful. We briefly told her what our plans and ideas were for our trip and she was able to provide genuinely helpful information. The manager of the hotel returned my call promptly about a billing issue I had and quickly took care of it.

The room was clean, new and comfortable. Not a complaint there.

The hotel is a block up from the visitor center and near the free trolley stops. And, this is not a fault of the hotel, but we found the free trolleys to be sporadic and not worth waiting for. We walked down King St. and never saw the trolley we thought about taking even pass us. A cab ride to the heart of downtown is 7 bucks.

This Holiday Inn is brand new and has super friendly and professional staff. A short walk to College of Charleston campus makes it a very convenient hotel for family visits. Short walk to restaurants, shops and other attractions. Very attractive and zen like contemporary decor. Great value in a nice setting. Staff is very accomodating and helpful and they let you know they appreciate your business. We had to cancel our last reservation since our car broke down on the way down there from NY and they were gracious enough to waive the penalty cancellation fee. Will rebook for February. True customer service that rewards loyalty!!! The Kuehn fa.
