We had three people sharing a room and we did not feel cramped. It was a clean, basic Holiday Inn room. Contrary to the review below entitled "Bed bugs," we stayed in this hotel the very same week for three nights and there were NO bedbugs or bites. (I always check for them when checking in.) Even though it's between two busy streets, we could hear no traffic from our room.
Be sure to try to get a package deal that includes the valet parking because, if you park your car there, the valet parking is mandatory. That said, the parking system is quite secure, which may be needed because the hotel is right on the edge of where the shopping area turns to a kind of seedy area.
The location is VERY convenient!! We could walk easily down King Street and Meeting Street and could catch the free trolley there to other parts of Charleston. We just left our car parked except for a trip out to tour a plantation.
The staff were very nice. One improvement I would suggest is a complimentary breakfast. There is a restaurant but a basic breakfast is $8 - $10 and service there was slow. As an alternative, we walked down King Street to Black Bean & Company for an inexpensive healthy breakfast.
