This is a place where traditional neighborhoods, nationally ranked golf and a vibrant downtown enjoy a spectacular coastal setting. Surrounded by rivers, creeks and beautiful marsh views, Daniel Island is a place where people live and work, where children walk to school, and where the opportunities for active recreation are limitless. If you are visiting from out of town, there isn't that much to see/do on Daniel Island. There are a few cute shops: Monkee, Paisley and a few others and there is a great restaurant - Laura Albrecht's. Other than that - if you aren't there to play tennis/golf, I can't imagine why you would visit here on a trip to Charleston

As Mt. Pleasant becomes more and more crowded which is evident by the commute anywhere, Daniel island is positioned as the place to live in Charleston. Why? For starters it is safe. Kids can ride bikes and play in parks and not have to dodge traffic. The community has been planned for families. Though I don't live on DI, the "park side" is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods I've ever experienced. When this community is built out, it will be the best place in Charleston to raise a family.

If your are looking for an alternative, Daniel Island is worth the stop. Though it is situated a 15 minute drive to the beach or downtown Charleston the atmosphere is comfortable and laid back. It was fun to check out the island and I especially liked Semet, the restaurant. There are other restaurants to choose from on the island, a grocery store, hotel etc.
Plan on returning and getting to know more about Daniel's Island.

Daniel Island is a relatively new housing development just upriver from Charleston with easy access by car or boat. It is not yet fully developed so it will be a few years before it has the look and feel of a complete community, but it already has several very good restaurants and wonderful amenities.
