On vacation with my husband, in-laws, and young children, we asked our carriage driver for a lunch suggestion. He sent us to Cru. It was wonderful! Everything we had was delicious! They even make the children grilled cheese sandwiches. We lucked out getting seating for 6 without a reservation. Definitely a great, local place to try!

The staff is fairly rude when you first enter this tiny place, but the service is decent. The menu offers mostly sandwiches, salads and a couple of soup choices. The prices are a bit high, but the food is all average to good.

My wife and I shared a beautiful lunch at this charming cafe just a short walk from the Market. The Tomato Bisque was wonderfully teamed with a 1/2 Italian sandwich. M'lady raved over the Shrimp BLT (a best seller!) The service was outstanding (our server was welcoming, knowledgeable and had the most warm smile). The Greeter went out of his way to assure that our seating AND my parking was attended to (he even offered his parking card, which we didn't need as the meter was defective so we received 10 hours at no charge...JACKPOT!)

We had reservations and arrived on time. When we walked in, no one acknowledged us. Finally the manager Nate, gave us a questioning look and I said my name and that I had reservations. He tersely motioned to a table without saying a word or smiling at all. By southern standards, his manners are atrocious. A quick, "We're glad you're joining us tonight. Here is your table," would suffice along with welcoming body language. He seemed put out that we had arrived. I had the duck which was well prepared but the hash with it was over salted. My table companions dishes were average. With all that Charleston has to offer for people who love food, Cru cafe is not an option. I would suggest SNOB.

We're very sorry to hear about your experience recently. Nate is known as a well-respected and liked manager in our restaurant, so hearing this is unacceptable and we will talk with him about this immediately. If you plan to come to Charleston again, please let us know ahead of time so we can remedy this. We do hope you will give us another chance. Our apologies.

We had their General Tso's Chicken and really enjoyed it. Service was really good as well. We will be back when we are back in Charleston.
