Awesome French Bistro menu with atmosphere of SOHO or The Village!
Unfortunately the Chef was off that night and the "line cook" either wasn't trained properly or at all!
My Sweetbreads looked like McD's chicken nuggets and the Lyonaise Salad sure wasn't like you'd get in Lyon!
I would try it again but call ahead first.

Every trip to Charleston HAS to include a trip to Rue de Jean. The mussels are the best anywhere. They offer about 5 different sauces but I always end up ordering the same one - white wine butter garlic sauce. Sauce is never overpowering and always compliments the mussels, which are always mild and tender. They are served with nice french bread - crunchy on outside, soft inside - perfect for using up the sauce left in the bowl. We have dined for lunch and dinner, everything has always been delicious from fish to beef to sandwiches. You can't go wrong here - everything is always good. They have a nice bar area as well - seating also available in bar area.

Ate here Halloween night. No room at the bar so we had a booth in the bar area. Our waiter, Eric, was excellent recommending various dishes on the menu. We had heard they served a good burger so that is what the missus ordered. She's a HUGE burger fan. I opted to have two appetizers for my dinner..started with steak tartare...which was superb! Then the roasted bone marrow as my "entree". It was excellent. I highly recommend trying it if you've never experienced it before. They're known for their mussels but I just didn't have room. BUT there's always room for dessert right? POTS DE CRÈME AU CHOCOLAT was beyond delicious!
A wonderful dinner on a funky night! Enjoy!

Went here this week, enjoyed it so much I went back the following night. Good variety on the menu with emphasis on meat with French flair. Had oysters for starter that were very fresh and good size. Had duck the first night, and New York strip the second. Duck came with a potato infused with goat cheese, was tremendous side. Just had vegetables the following night as I was not as hungry. Service very good and friendly.

We arrived at 39 Rue de Jean by mistake. Were looking for Coast rest. Which is done an alley by this rest. No reservations to this quite upscale rest and were greeted very well and seated promptly on their covered patio with heaters. Just an exceptional cozy feeling. Waitress was very nice and everyone that attended the table. I had pan seared trout with garlic potatoes and a chopped veg medley. Excellent. My daughter had a bourbon chicken and jasmine rice. She too thought it wax good. We loved the atmosphere of Thepatio. Thought the prices were very reasonable for this level of restaurant. Definitely a must on a trip to charleston
