“Fabulous and quaint”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

My husband and I stayed in the Charleston room whilst holidaying here. Lovely large quaint and comfortable room. Easy walking distance to all of the sights, restaurants etc. Staff are very friendly and let you feel at home and even provide you with a glass of wine to have on the verandah in the evening! We would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed in the Charleston room and were very pleased by the quality of the furnishings, the comfort of the bed and quiet location within the Inn though the Inn itself was quiet.
The Inn is within a comfortable and easy walking distance to the heart of the shopping district. We enjoyed the southern breakfast at the sister property (Palmer House #5 East Bay). Dawn and Terri (Innkeepers) were pleasant and friendly. Parking on site can be a challenge and it's first come first serve which was no big deal to us for we stayed on foot for 2 days.

Room Tip: I can only speak for the Charleston Room. I'm sure the others are just as nice.

I can't believe some of the negative reviews this place has received. I'm glad I didn't read them before we booked our stay.

We found the Inn to be charming and quaint. We felt lucky to get a room there just a few days before we went to Charleston. Dawn was quite accommodating in making our reservations and helpfully answered all our questions. Terry called the day we were to arrive to let us know there was wine and cheese waiting for us when we checked in (she knew we were arriving after office hours), gave me her mobile number in case there were any issues ... could not have been nicer and more welcoming!

When we arrived we found our keys and information from Terry exactly where she said it would be. Most of the wine was gone already (it was after 8:00 and the wine/cheese was for all the guests, not just us) but that was okay. Our room was at the top of the [very narrow] staircase and was just beautiful! The bed was comfortable, there was a coffee pot, coffee, creamer & sugar in the room and everything was spotless.

We were pleasantly surprised to learn the Inn offers free WiFi and it was fast and secure - hurray! The bathroom had a hair dryer (which we weren't expecting) and there was extra pillows and a down comforter in case we were cold. Our bathroom was rather small, with only a shower, but it was roomy enough for us. Hanging on the door, however, were two lovely bathrobes - another nice surprise! (I seriously wanted to buy one since it was monogrammed with my initial - LOL.)

Things to note before you stay here: the staircase to the 2nd floor is extraordinarily narrow (not for the era of the house, but by today's standards) and may be difficult for some to navigate. (Seriously, it's about 2 feet wide.) The parking lot is miniscule and only holds three vehicles - maybe four if they're tiny. We felt quite fortunate to have a parking place there so we didn't have to deal with parking across the street. The windows in our room (Cottage Room) did not have screens on them so we didn't feel like we could open the windows for fresh air (it was a nice cool night but we didn't want to get bugs in the room).

The location is terrific - walking distance to many popular restaurants, the French Market, Harris Teeter grocery store, even the Charleston Marine Center. The restaurant across the street (Cru) was excellent, and the pub up the block (Big John's, I think) was a great place to have a couple of late-night drinks. The Inn offers basic breakfast goods but we did not partake of them. We thought it quite charming that the snacks in the kitchen include doggie snacks.

When you plan your stay at Palmer's Pinckney Inn, remember that the building is nearly 150 years old. The owners do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible, so appreciate the history of the area and the quaintness of the inn. If you want a Hyatt or Sheraton or someplace sterile & modern, stay at one of them! If you want homey & comfortable, give this place a try. It's a wonderfully romantic place to spend a night or two!

Room Tip: The staircase to the 2nd floor is extraordinarily narrow (not for the era of the house, but by today...

First the good news- the staff of this small B&B was most accommodating and helpful. The location is great.

Now the not so good news- this building is very old. Obviously needed maintenance has been deferred. There is a sometimes subtle difference between cozy and shabby; this inn falls in the latter category: old furniture, old linens, poor kitchen and dining (?) areas, and a parking lot that only Houdini could admire...you don't just exit, you have to plan your escape on the ridiculously narrow driveway. I also wonder about fire safety- where was the second means of egress from the second floor?

There are great B&B's in Charleston. This is not one of them.

We were only able to stay in Charleston a bare 24 hours, but are now anxious to return. Palmer's Pinckney Inn very comfortable, lovely decor, Dawn the manager very friendly and helpful. She got us onto a very good walking tour. Can't wait to return!

Very comfortable clean room, with gas fireplace, large tub, & great pillows, bed, linens. Small yet thoughtfully stocked kitchen (snacks, fruit, continental+quiche breakfast, evening wine) available 24 hrs. Porches narrow without view but enjoyed sitting out there to relax. Great location near the market. A big breakfast (we didn't try it) available for $5 & PM complimentary wine & cheese (did enjoy this) included at Palmers Inn which is a lovely large old waterfront place in the Battery. A long walk but no problem for walkers. Will definitely return.

My husband surprised me with a stay at this beautiful inn for our 1st anniversary. We take our dog Calvin everywhere we go, and this trip was no exception. We all felt so at home in the cozy Bombay Room, and the service was incredible. We were even able to enjoy a nice lunch because they offered to watch our dog so we could enjoy a meal without having to find a dog friendly restaurant (even though Charleston is very dog friendly). We had a wonderful stay and will never stay anywhere else on future visits. Pinckney has won our hearts!
