“Charming historic inn with the perfect location in downtown Charleston.”
Reviewed 17 May 2010

My boyfriend and I took our first trip to Charleston for a long weekend and without knowing anything about the city, we stumbled upon this gem. While at first we were disappointed there was no availability at Palmer Home, it turned out this was exactly where we wanted to be, within walking distance of restaurants, the market and nightlife. The best part was that we were still able to enjoy the gorgeous view and porch at Palmer Home during the wine and cheese which is served everyday between 4 and 6. With free parking and an accommodating staff, the Palmer Pinckey Inn really was the perfect place for our vacation. Highly recommend!

This was my third time staying at this inn. I love it! The past two times I was with my husband, but this time I was with a groups of friends on a girls weekend get away. The inn is very well priced and could not be in a better location. Once you arrive and park your car, you do not need to return to it until your departure. Everything is in walking distance. Also, the inn keeper is so helpful. I called before our arrival and was able to find out what was going on that weekend and also called to make dinner reservations. Once my group arrived she helped us map out our day. I am so pleased with this inn, I will keep returning!!! Great job:)

We chose this B&B because it is "pet-friendly". It was very disappointing. The house is old, and there are many needed upgrades. Weekday rates are fairly reasonable, but the prices jump on the weekend, way to high for the value. Room was small but clean. The main problem is the lack of service. There is only one woman managing the inn, and she was not there when we arrived, nor was she ever around (we just had her cell phone number). You have to make your own continental breakfast from the selection of bread, muffins and other groceries in the kitchen. Paying a premium for doing the work is not my idea of good value! Nothing special or memorable about the Palmer Pinkney Inn. I would not recommend it.

First time we had ever stayed at a Bed and Breakfast in Charleston. The Palmer Pinckney Inn was everything I could have hoped for. The room was very nice and cozy - the beds were SO comfortable. The innkeeper was just as helpful and kind as she could be. We loved having access to everything. The location couldn't have been any better. Charleston is one of our favorite cities and we have finally found a place to stay that we can return to on our future visits. Thank you Palmer Staff for making our trip a wonderful one!

We arrived on a cold, windy and rainy night in the wake of Hurricane Ida which was moving up the coast. We were happy to find the innkeeper Cindy waiting to show us our cozy room, fireplace on. There were snacks and fresh-baked cookies available in the kitchen and Cindy shared her knowledge of the area. We took her recommendation and had dinner across the street at the Cru Café. It was excellent. Trigger fish was on the menu and beautifully prepared. The next day we walked the city, played 9 holes of golf and took the carriage tour through this wonderful city. We loved our visit and the Palmer's Pinckney Inn had a lot to do with our enjoyment of Charleston.

My husband and I just spent 2 nights at the Pinckney Inn over this last weekend. We could not have been more satisfied with our choice. I am a person who searches and searches for just the right place at just the right price when we go to visit and stay some where. After much search and comparisons, I found the Pinckney. I read other reviews and we were a bit nervous, but we were not disappointed after arriving there. The Equestrian room was on the first floor and it is lovely. Nicely decorated with antiques, gas fireplace, beautiful king bed and tiled bath with jacuzzi tub. And free wifi was available too in our room. We fell in love with the ambiance and old colonial world feel of the Inn. The Inn is such a great representation of the Charleston charm and feel you get when visiting there.
Cindy met us upon arrival, took us to our room, explained everything to us, made sure we were satisfied with our room and answered any questions we had with a smile and friendly conversation. After leaving on Sunday, we feel like we've made a new friend.
As for the Inn, yes, it's next to a horse barn, but you could not smell anything inside the Inn. There was always a pleasant smell in the room. The room was clean and bed very comfortable. Yes, the parking was tight, but in the city, it's expected and we felt lucky to have the free parking compared to other places we've stayed in Charleston, we paid from $12-$19 a night. Cindy made sure we got our truck in without problems and once we parked, everything is in such close walking distance, we never moved the truck again till we left. We loved having free run in the kitchen. We didn't have to wait till a certain hour to eat and food was always available if we got hungry for a snack at any hour. There was plenty to choose from for cereal, fruit, muffins and cookies (baked every day by Cindy), cottage cheese packages, a variety of breads and spreads, juice and milk, even wine if we had wanted a glass. Coffee was ready every morning by 8am and if you couldn't wait, there was a pot to fix our own in the foyer by our room. As if all that weren't enough, we could also have gone to the Palmer House on the battery for a full breakfast for a small fee if we chose. We felt very safe in the area, there were two locked doors to get into our room and a lock on the inside as well. There was some morning noise, but come on, you are in the middle of a city. We have stayed at several places in downtown Charleston and they all have their outside noise that is heard in the mornings. Yes, the rooms are a bit drafty, but it's a 200yr old building! There are bound to be some issues! This problem was addressed by the Inn with the gas fireplace, furnace was also running and there was also a portable heater in the room which we put in the bathroom to heat it for our showers. Cindy told us and showed us where the thermostat was if all that was not enough so we could turn the heat up if necessary. Cindy was there all day to help us and when she left, she made sure we had emergency numbers.
One of the best parts about our stay was being invited by Cindy and Ms Palmer at the Palmer House to join them for the Harbor boat parade party she had at the Inn on E. Battery. It was so much fun watching the decorated boats from the veranda and seeing the beautiful house with it's history.
We will be staying at the Pinckney Inn whenever we visit Charleston again. It is the best value we have gotten there for the price and all that's offered. If you are expecting 5star accommodations and need to be waited on then this may not be the place for you, but if you are looking for a place with charm and that homey feeling then this is it!
Thank you again Cindy for all you attention and hospitality. You truly help to make the Inn the great place that it is!

I thought this place was lovely - very comfortable, charming without being over the top, clean and cozy. It was walking distance to everything, and we loved exploring the town on foot, then coming back to the room for afternoon naps. The walls were very thin, but we weren't bothered (still not good for light sleepers). We booked an extra room for a friend who became ill and couldn't come to Charleston - Cindy was very helpful in canceling the booking. We really appreciated her ensuring that our friend's illness didn't affect our weekend vacation.
