The bridge replaced the old cantilever truss bridge that spanned the Cooper river last time we visited in 1994. While the cable stayed bridge is beautiful and fascinating to observe, the neat thing is that bike/pedestrian lanes were included in the design, meaning you can walk, run, or bike across the bridge without dodging traffic. Awesome views of both Charleston and Patriot's Point (USS Yorktown) from the bridge, and awesome workout given that it's a tough uphill hike to the bridge's highest point. Well worth visiting!
