“Excellent View, Awesome Workout!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014

The bridge replaced the old cantilever truss bridge that spanned the Cooper river last time we visited in 1994. While the cable stayed bridge is beautiful and fascinating to observe, the neat thing is that bike/pedestrian lanes were included in the design, meaning you can walk, run, or bike across the bridge without dodging traffic. Awesome views of both Charleston and Patriot's Point (USS Yorktown) from the bridge, and awesome workout given that it's a tough uphill hike to the bridge's highest point. Well worth visiting!

“An active and free way to see the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

This is a great activity to experience in Charleston but plan ahead. It is a substantial distance (uphill half of the way) so have water with you and wear your sports kicks! It's kinda far for kids so I would maybe plan to only go halfway if you're going to attempt it and you have to keep track of the bikers coming from both directions. The parking lot on the Charleston side is great and free to park, it isn't close to any other attractions so don't park here thinking you will be able to leave your car there all day. This is popular with the locals so if you can't pull off an acceptable "ya'll" just hit the bridge walk and you'll know why we are so proud of our city!

Great for exercise, you can ride your bike, walk, job or run. And of course drive across it. Thats the extent of it haha.

“Amazing Bridge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

This bridge was built to include walkers, runners and cyclists! A great view of the harbor, USS Yorktown and Fort Sumpter can be seen from the bridge. Great walk on a spring evening. We walked to the top and back on our first day in Charleston and loved the fact that a bridge was built considering the needs of the community. It is a beautiful sight to see!
