The service at King Charles was excellent. The front desk staff, waiters in the restaurant, and the hotel's manager all did what they could to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We were aware of the nearby construction before arriving so planned accordingly. The noise began at 8 am, but did not disturb our stay. We were up and out early and gone all day. The room was comfortable and very clean. It included a small refrigerator but no mini-bar. The location is perfect - away from the crush of tourists - but easy walking distance to the market, all the good restaurants, and points of interest. The Visitor's Center is also very close, and is a good place to visit for information on the city. Hotel is definitely a great value for the price.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side are better, especially during construction.

Pros: LOCATION (close to every amazing restaurant [e.g. <.5mi from FIG, Blossom, Husk, SNOB, etc.]), service (helped us celebrate my husband's new job), clean, nice pool, bar, happy hour reception, one of the most affordable options in downtown Charleston

Cons: Currently construction next door, so you might want to call to ensure you have a room on the other side if it's still going on

Note: Parking is always free; it's not really a Tripadvior perk

We enjoyed our two night stay. There is some loud construction going on which initially scared our two year old. We were out so much during the day exploring the city that it did not matter. It is in a great location. Very easy to walk to the market, as well as up King Street. Located right between Jestines Kitchen and Hymans seafood which are both great!

The room was rather small and I had to keep my suitcase in the closet, but was able to set it on the stand and leave it open so it was not too bad. A closet light might be a nice addition so that it would be easier to dig in my suitcase to get what's needed. The tub is wonderful and spacious. It was half as much as the other highly ranked hotels. I'm not sure if this is because of the construction going on, or if that's their regular price. If its their regular price, its a great deal!

Room Tip: Choosing a room with a king might help save space vs two queens.

I booked a room through the hotel's website. The website failed to mention that there would be unbearable construction noise from 8:00-5:00 every week day. I'm not talking about average construction noise like motors roaring and back-up alarms beeping. I'm talking about pile driving equipment so loud that it shakes the hotel. I had earplugs and a white noise app, and they had no effect on the noise. The hotel staff obviously knows this might be a concern to guests, as it is the first thing they mention when you check in. Informing me of the noise when I am standing at the check-in counter with nowhere else to go is inadequate. I don't usually write reviews, but I feel that anyone considering this hotel should know the situation BEFORE making a decision. If you are going to be up early and out on business all day, this hotel may be fine for you. However, if you plan to stay out late and explore Charleston's night life and then sleep later in the morning, I highly recommend you find somewhere else.

Room Tip: I asked for a room away from construction, but was told there aren't any.

I sincerely apologize for the less than pleasant stay. Please know the pylon driving has ended next door. I understand how frustrating this can be when you are on vacation and I am sorry. I hope this incident does not deter you from visiting us again in the future. Thank you for your honest feedback.

We stayed 2 nights at the King Charles, because the location allowed us to walk to our planned destinations. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, and we enjoyed breakfast at the pup/grille. It was too cold to take advantage of the outdoor pool during our stay. We did take advantage of the opportunity to have a fruit, cheese, and crackers tray along with a bottle of wine in our room when we arrived, and are very glad we did! My only "knock" on the hotel was the price.

My husband and sister and I booked two rooms last weekend at the King Charles Inn. Our rooms were lovely, comfortable beds, nice marble countertops and makeup mirror in bathrooms. Adequate small breakfast menu, very handy to have on location, so we didn't have to leave the building and find a spot for breakfast. Pretty little pool and large lounge area. Nice afternoon reception with appetizers for guests. Bar available for drinks. The staff was exceptional. Whenever we needed a cab or sightseeing advice, they were there for us. The drawback was the construction noise next door, where a motel is being built; the piledriver shakes the neighborhood! However, there is no construction on Sat./Sun., and if you are going to be out sightseeing all day during the week, it's okay. Nice, friendly place to stay with private parking (hooray!) in a great location in the historic section. Yes, we'll stay there again in the future!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the construction side.

This hotel is right downtown, with parking! A rare find in a city. The rooms are not typical, very quaint. They are a bit like a bed and breakfast, with split levels and couches on each floor. Comfortable rooms. David at the front desk went above and beyond, as did the rest of the staff. Usually a drink at the hotel bar costs the equivalent of an entire bottle, but not here! The drinks are not only affordable, but the wait staff is helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again and again.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the construction site next door is helpful, but the construction crew doesn't st...
