“Church and Tea!”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

St Philips is a very nice church, very friendly greeters. The day we went they were having a fund raiser and offering a luncheon. We were happy to help and we enjoyed our lunch very much.

“Beautiful grounds but couldn't get inside”
Reviewed 19 April 2014 via mobile

Sadly we weren't able to see the inside but the grounds were worth a trip to see. The historic grave yard is beautiful and the little building in the back made for great pix. We spent quite a bit of time here. There is a path that goes completely around the church.

“Historic Graves at St. Philip's”
Reviewed 12 April 2014

This attractive church had a rough start in 1670, with the replacement church burning down in 1835, but it has a serene interior and small picturesque graveyard. You can find the graves of John C. Calhoun, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence - Edward Rutledge and Charles Pinckney, among others.

The tall church spire has new bells - the old ones were converted into cannons during the Civil War! Take a few moments to stroll through the peaceful church and graveyard after a busier time in downtown Charleston.

“A lovely oasis in the middle of Charleston~”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

After walking about all morning and then stopping to check out yet another beautiful cemetery, we walked into this beautiful church to take a breather. All I wanted to do was it, pray and meditate, while enjoying the beautiful art.

Imagine my surprise when were were greeted by two older ladies, both docents of the church who welcomed us in and gave us a mini historical tour of the church!!! My husband is the history buff and he was in heaven. I love the art and the cemeteries and neither of us were disappointed. I didn't have the heart to just sit out their talk so I just enjoyed it and went with the flow.

We are from San Diego so finding such lovely, educated volunteers at a church of all places was heavenly!! They do appreciate donations, so open up your wallet and be generous. PS...no ghosts but it wasn't disappointing in the least!

“Disappointed to find it locked”
Reviewed 4 February 2014

Attractive exterior, but as a priest who loves church architecture and historic church interiors, I had hoped to see the inside. Not only could one not get inside but could not get inside the gate or into the cemetery.
