Our group rented this home for a getaway. We were initially satisfied with the responsiveness of the owner but had some concerns after we arrived.
The layout of the home is somewhat awkward, which is not obvious from the photos. It probably served as two apartments at some point. It’s true there are some nice, bright bedrooms in this historic home, but the downstairs master bedroom opens to the entrance hallway with the only stairway to the second floor. This doorway is hidden by furniture in the photo provided by the owner. Renters should know that this doorway is the only way to the second floor from the downstairs living area. So, unless you want people walking through your bedroom to get back and forth, the downstairs master bedroom is not very usable. The pullout queen sofa in the upstairs back room is really a double. There were multiple non-functional smoke detectors on the premises and taped-down extension cords inside and out. The property is advertised as being in the ‘heart of downtown.” It’s actually next to a very busy and noisy highway 1.7 miles from the Charleston market. Potential renters should know what to expect.
