We arrived on a Friday, about 3 hours prior to check-in. We were able to go ahead and get our parking pass to park in their lot ($12 per day, but worth it). They also offered to hold our luggage until the room was ready. We were in a Junior Suite which included a Queen bed with seperate living room area with a wet bar, microwave, and refrigerator. The bathroom was nice, one sink with a shower/tub combo. Good water pressure. Only a few problems (so minor they will not hamper my return): 1. The TV remotes work the cable boxes and will not turn on the TV or work the volume. So when trying to relax you need to set the volume before sitting down and hope the station's volume doesn't change. 2. The person next to us (not the hotel's fault) slammed their door frequently during the day, never at night. So, they doors do slam easy, but if you get a good neighbor, no worries.

Now, this hotel offers free breakfast and a wine and cheese social daily. The breakfast was a standard cereal, fruit, yogurt, kinda deal. Nothing fancy. Sunday morning there were sausage biscuits, but the biscuit was dry from being under the heat lamps. The wine and cheese social proved to be wonderful. They have homemade pimento cheese spread which was great. I don't even like pimento cheese and this was great! I wish I had their recipe.

This place also has a rooftop terrace with a roof on part of it. This allowed you to go up and sit with your drink or just look out and not be directly in the sun. They also have a bar in the hotel, although we didn't utilize it. There is a business center with newer computers. There's a fitness center.

The staff was very knowledgeable. They offered suggestions as to lunch options and even gave accurate directions when asked the location of certain places.

The hotel is close enough to the attractions to walk to everything (the market, shops, even the aquarium), yet far enough of the main street to not be bothered with some of the noise.

We definitely plan to stay here again in the future!

A small group of us arrived for our one night stay prior to joining a bicycle tour the following day. They were ready for us and we were quickly checked in and set about exploring Charleston. The Inn is located in the historical district and easy walking to just about anywhere in that area. Across the street is a wonderful (and fully stocked) grocery store which was great for buying a few things to put in the fridge in my room.

The room was very comfortable, especially the bed. Several of the group were wanting to take the bed home with them! As a converted warehouse, the ceilings are high and the exposed beams and bricks only adds to the ambiance. There was a wet bar, microwave and fridge, large flat screen TV, free wifi (good connection) and the bathroom had loads of thick fuffy towels and premium toiletries.

Breakfast was included in the morning and was a cold buffet, but with a nice array of choices. Also, during the day there were cookies, coffee/tea, iced tea and lemonade available.

This inn has an elevator, which is helpful if you have heavy luggage, but the stairs are wide and easily navigable. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I would definttely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the side or back of the inn

When we arrived, it was a bit warm in our room, but it was 103 degrees outside, so we weren't sure if that was "normal". When Carrie came to our room with our chilled champagne, she said not to get comfortable, that the A/C wasn't working correctly. She moved us across the hall to a Suite! It was soooooo beautiful. 2 separate rooms, 2 TV's, couch, table, frig, micro and more and oh, so cool in the room. She is just delightful and helped us with ideas of new things to do. A cheerful, smiling face and an asset to the Inn. Daniel in the evening, helped us with beach and dinner ideas. He made a few calls for us and was willing to make our visit great. The entire staff was cheerful. The rooftop has been remodeled and it is beautiful to sit out in the evening and see the views of the city and the harbor. A wonderful place to stay. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We called them directly.

This place was fantastic. I love the decor, the rooms, the atrium, and the heavy timber framing. Very nice and within walking distance to most things. The staff was friendly. We enjoyed the wine & cheese hour, and the 24 hr coffee, tea, lemonade. Also, they have a very nice rooftop where you can bring your own drinks.

The breakfast could have been a little better though.

It's all been said..

Spotless rooms with a flair..
Good service
Good parking
Good location
The 'new' rooms are a bit noisy..I stayed in THE corner room ..had to be the nosiest..and it really didn't bother me much..but if that kinda thing [foot and automobile traffic outside your window] bothers you make sure you specify that when you make your reservations...[We walked in off the street..took their last room..

I'd stay here again in a second!

My wife and I just returned from a short 3-night getaway to Charleston. The Ansonborough Inn was the PERFECT home base for our trip.
The building is beautiful. Tons of character in the architecture, and very eclectic decor.
The service was great. Friendly tips on dining, tours and nightlife (Thanks Carrie!).
Our room (a Studio King) was excellent. Plenty of room, and worth the small price for the upgrade (based on the other reviews I've read about small rooms). What's interesting to me is that when I was booking the room, they were very up front with me. They made it clear that the standard rooms were fairly small. Couple that with the fact that the photos clearly show that the standard rooms are small, and I'm not sure how anybody could be surprised. But anyway...
Location is excellent. Short walk to the market, but just far enough away to not feel like you are surrounded by crowds constantly. And, if you are interested in also checking out the aquarium area, this Inn is a short walk to there as well. You walk a lot in Charleston, and the Ansonborough is in a perfect location for that. Also, the grocery store across the street is a great place to pick up bottled water (or wine). Yes, there is some noise outside the building. Our room was directly across from the grocery store, so we heard the occasional truck. But it was pretty minimal. And we heard very little noise from elsewhere in the building.
The continental breakfast is pretty basic, but it was exactly what I'd expect from a continental breakfast. This isn't a B&B, it's an inn. But toast, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, muffins, juice, coffee, tea, etc. was a great start every day.
Wine at 5 is very nice, but we just didn't get to take advantage of it enough.
Cold tea and lemonade all day is also nice.
Not one single complaint. Loved our stay, and we'd go back again in a second. Hopefully we'll get a chance to do so.

Room Tip: pay the upgrade for a studio king. Book early.

Spotless housekeeping, gracious and helpful staff and very comfortable, quiet rooms---what more can one ask for? Have stayed here numerous times and always look forward to returning.
