Outstanding hotel and in a great location in the historic district. The room was MUCH better than we expected! Don't miss this one!

This was a great find for a downtown stay in Charleston. I thought it was a little pricey, but for the area, it wasn't too bad. They are in the process of some renovations, but the hotel looks very nice. It's in an old warehouse on the outskirts of the main tourist area, but not far from good restaurants, bars, and shops. The room we stayed in was a recently renovated king stduio with high ceilings and very nicely appointed.
The hotel can be loud- it didn't seem like it was soundproffed very well, so you could hear water from showers upstairs and you could hear people talking in the lobby if they were using non-inside voices. However, it was very comfortable.
The complimentary breakfast was good- not a full breakfast, but more than your typical continental breakfast. Usual fare seemed to be hard boiled eggs, toast, bagels, assorted pastries, fruit, and hot and cold cereals. They had a nightly wine and cheese social which was a lot of fun.
I would definitely stay here again.
The Inn is a converted warehouse near the dock and can be a little noisy at times. But, the rooms are large and very convenient to the historic district. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Parking is extra, but at $12/night, it wasn't excessive for Charleston. Within easy walking distance of Marion Park, the Market area and several excellent restaurants. There is a grocery store across the street and convenient to pick up anything you forgot to take with you.
We were thrilled with our room. Huge room with mini kitchen, counter with bar stools, large bathroom, high ceilings. The only complaint would be road noise in the morning. Location is within a short walk of the Market, Restaurants and Waterfront. Staff was freindly and helpful. We were only in Charleston for one night, but we will definitely be planning a week long trip there and will book with the Ansonborough Inn. I don't think you'll find better value for the money.
Great character & location. Loved the art and woodwork in the lobby & room! Oil paintingsof cute animals everywhere. Off the beaten path but close enough to walk to everything in touristy area w/out feeling shoved in a touristy area! Loft room had a separate bedroom upstairs and kitchen/bar area & couch on lower level. Harris Teeter grocery store is across a quiet little street for nice wines & snacks. Parking was free and vey conveninent, Was a little loud in AM when trucks were delivering to grocery store. Wine reception was nice and so was breakfast buffet, although a little light, no meats just pastries, quice and fruit/yogurt. I will definately stay here again because it was just so nice and I travel alot and like nice hotels.
I have been to Charleston twice this year and stayed at the Ansonborough Inn both times. The location is perfect, accomodations are beautiful and the happy hour/breakfast are great!! I highly recommend this inn.
