Gee--what a great spot! You will not find a better location in Charleston. Nestled in the residential area of the Battery, you feel what it must have been like to be a Charlestonian at the turn of the century. The brick carriageway leads the way to a cozy room in the carriage house. We felt so welcome--and a bottle of champagne waiting in our room in celebration of our 15th anniversary certainly helped! What a nice way to start our romantic interlude...The staff guided us to fun attractions and fabulous restaurants. We loved Hank's restaurant--amazing seafood! We decided on our way home that we would make this our anniversary get-a-way from now on.

My boyfriend and I came to Charleston expecting atmosphere, small-town feel, and hospitality, and we were NOT disappointed!!! The location of The Battery Carriage B & B was perfect--the gentle breeze from the battery and the proximity to shops and restaurants was amazing!

The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast in the garden while enjoying the birds was something we looked forward to daily. Totally unexpected was the turn-down service! Overall, we will certainly visit again.

Don't be fooled by the nice pictures of this B&B house because you won't EVER see it. All you will see is the underside of the porch, which sits literally underneath the house where you'll be having your early evening cheese & crackers with your watered down wine like trolls. This B&B is nothing more than a hotel with a much higher price tag. The B&B itself is really not part of the beautiful house that has a 2 story veranda. The house is actually a private residence that you as a guest cannot go into at all. You can't even enjoy any of the beautiful wrap around porches or views of the battery. And don't expect to be even greeted when you check in. The staff can care less that you're even there. As for breakfast, it's the same every day & you mark on a card what you want. Once the staff delivers it either to your room or the back garden, that's it. No one comes back to see if you want refills on ANYTHING. The rooms are extremely small too & good luck fitting into the bathroom if you're even a slighly bigger person. The rooms also smell like mildew and the AC unit will be buzzing in your ear all night. The only positive aspect of this B&B was the location, period.

The picture is very misleading. The actual rooms are tucked away behind the house with absolutely no views. The front is a private residence, off limits to the guests. The rooms are dark , small and musty with non descript furniture. Minuscule, mildewed bathrooms, very basic breakfast, delapitated structure way past an expected patina. No cell reception and no WiFi paid or unpaid .
Oh, and the front desk clerk with a personality of a DMV employee.

All this for only $305 per night !!!!

We stayed here for our honeymoon and were very pleased! The staff was very courteous and helpful, they even had a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting in our room one night. It's a bit of a walk to the restaurants and shops but fun to see all the beautiful houses along the way. The room was a little small (Room #6), but we expected that. We would definitely stay here again!

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of days the week before Christmas for a quiet getaway before the rush of the holidays. The rooms, while not exactly spacious, were adequatley sized, but the enormous bed took up a lot of the room- not that that was a bad thing. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on and we were both able to stretch out completely without knocking each other onto the floor. The rooms were very clean and the massive tub was also a treat. One thing some guests might have a problem with is that there were no drawers in which to put one's clothes, but since we prefer to hang everything while travelling and there were plenty of hangers, this was no problem. There were, however, drawers in the bathroom, so we were able to put all our toiletries away and not have them cluttering up the vanity- a rarity when one travels.

One thing to watch out for, and this is probably a bit of a problem in the high season, is the parking. You can only park on the side of the street on which the house is located for two hours, the opposite side for as long as you wish. Since we were there in the slow season, we had no problem.

All in all, this was the perfect way to ease into a restful Charleston stay after a hectic week. We hope to come back one day.

My husband and I went for our anniversary and had a great time. The room was really nice and the staff was so helpful. We spent every evening getting great advice about where to go from Gena, one of the innkeepers, and exchanged great travel stories. When we go back, we are definitely staying there again.
