“Great place!”
Reviewed 31 March 2012

I had my wedding in charleston and reserved a bunch of rooms for our friends and family. Everyone loved the hotel and the staff was wonderful. Very accomodating. We will definitely be back. The rooms were very nice, the lobby georgeous, and a nice breakfast.

We were a little worried due to some of the reviews, but we really liked this hotel. Very different architecture due to it being the Old Citadel. We enjoyed that. Room was nice but could use a vent fan in the bathroom. Other than that it was clean and typical to an Embassy suites with the front room and bedrroom, with two tv's, small refrigerator. Bed was kind of hard.
Breakfast was great with some good biscuits and gravy, omelettes, and other hot food. They do have some birds in the hallway outside of the breakfast area that screamed, which was annoying.
Very nice and helpful front desk people. Dan the bellman was friendly and very helpful. The parking garage for self parking is in and out and right behind the property. The Charleston museum is right across the street, as is the visitor's center with plenty of free trolleys.
The College of Charleston is a block away and several good restaurants one block away.
We would stay here again.

For those that like Embassy Suites like my wife and I do, you should like this location because it's a little different than most. First of all, it's in a historic building that used to house The Citadel. It's not a high rise like most and the rooms are smaller, but very clean and nice. We had the outer wall that was brick. All of the employees we encountered from the front desk, valet, breakfast servers were super. The valet staff were very friendly and quick to get your car out of valet. The breakfast room was rather small and hard to find tables sometimes. It's in a good location and many attractions are well within walking distance of this hotel. The sole complaint I have is that I ordered room service late one night and it was pretty poor. The nachos had melted cheese like you'd find in a 7-Eleven - very disgusting.

My colleagues and I spent three days and two nights at the Embassy Suites in Historic Charleston for a business meeting held on-site in their meeting rooms. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by friendly valet attendants as well as check-in staffers. Because most of us arrived early before check-in time, there were few rooms available but the staff was quick to offer to hold our luggage until rooms were ready. The meeting rooms were spacious and quiet.

This property is located just a short walk from many historic sites and shopping. It's right next to a park where Fashion Week was being held. Because of Fashion Week festivities, I heard a lot of music thumping in my room one of the nights, but I was able to drown it out with my tv. This is no fault of the property, but just be aware if your stay coincides with events held in the park. My room had two full size beds which were oddly situated long ways with the foot of the beds facing each other with a couple of feet between where a window was. You could only view the tv from one of the beds due to the odd shaped room and positioning of the tv, but this wasn't a big deal for me as I was the only one in my room. As other reviews mentioned, there was no lamp at the desk but since it was next to the bed with a wall lamp nearby, this wasn't too bad. Also I was able to work at the table located in the living room which had an overhead light fixture. But the rooms were more dark than I'm accustomed to.

Daily breakfast was very typical of other Embassy Suites I've stayed at, with cooked to order omelets as well as a large selection of fruits, pastries and cereals along with grits, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage and potatoes. The only bad part of breakfast is their coffee and I must say it was horrible. But Starbucks is just a short walk across the park :) The Manager's Cocktail Reception was nice and they served chicken nuggets and veggies the first night, but we missed it the second night. Outdoor patio seating during the happy hour was lovely and since the weather was nice that was an added plus.

The lobby ladies room had the most wonderful salt scrub for your hands and it made our skin feel so soft! They sold jars of this scrub in their itty-bitty hotel gift shop. I highly encourage you to try it out - it's great! But they don't have it in the men's room - we made one of our male colleagues look for us.

Overall, it was a lovely stay and I would book this property again in a heartbeat!

We just returned from a two night stay in Charleston. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was because of the suite option as there were 4 of us one night. You enter the room into the living room area. There is a sleeper couch, which was comfortable according to our guests, a lounge chair and a small table with 2 chairs. As another reviewer mentioned, there are no windows and it is a bit dark. It was not really an issue for us since we only spent a little time hanging out in the room, watching some basketball. The bedroom area is separated from the living room by the bathroom on one side and a counter with coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave on other. It was nice to have this space between the two areas, rather than just a door. The bedroom had a window which was not wide but was full length and let in plenty of light. The beds were comfortable. The furniture and decor were just ok. Everything was clean.

I loved walking into the hotel, you could feel the history. It feels so substantial. The atrium area, around which the rooms lie, had several comfortable seating areas which was a nice
place to take your free drinks from the nightly manager's reception. You could also sit in the small bar area, outside in a nice patio area with tables or around the pool. The manager'sreception included wine, beer and mixed drinks. There was a little bit of food which I didn't try- mini corn dogs one night. The hot breakfast items included grits, bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes and made to order omelets. The omelet was good but maybe a little too greasy for my taste but kudos to the omelet chef, he was doing a great job keeping up with demand.

Check in was smooth. We arrived early and were able to check in. We used valet service-they had the car waiting for us both times we asked for it. They also had a taxi for us when we asked. Valets were knowledgeable and able to give directions. Wireless was good. Bathroom amenities were very good. Coffee service in lobby. Elevators were fast. We had some trouble with our keys demagnetizing and they sent someone to check to make sure it wasn't our door.

Location is very good. Meeting st is not as nice this far up so we would always walk down King st which is where all the shopping is. Very convenient and easy to get to highways and bridge to Folly beach.

I absolutely adore Embassy Suites, let me say first. The location was great, the staff was fabulous, the breakfast was excellent. The room we were assigned to was average at best. The maintenance crew was painting and the smell bothered us the entire time. We were there for my birthday, and had a very nice time. It is not the best experience that I have had with Embassy Suites, but it is definitely not the worst experience with. Hotel. Overall, I will definitely return, and will take into account of location of room.

It's true that the rooms lack windows that open and the rooms seem a little dated. It served us well, though, since we were here only two nights and wanted the convenience of the location. Front desk staff is great. This is not a luxurious place but it definitely is way above average.

Thanks for the feedback. Being that we are the Historical Old Citadel Military college back in the late 1800's , our rooms are very different from the typical Embassy experience. We understand your concern about the hotel feeling dated. We tried to keep the historical feel as much as possible. The next time you find yourself in Charleston, please let one of the managers know and we will personally pick a room that best fits your needs.

Thanks again for your feedback.
