It was a great place to stay and staff right on top of things. Very cool place to stay.. If you want you can walk to the bay and lots of cool places to eat while there, also lots of shops and the city is very easy to get a round in. Will be going back very soon and enjoy it again

We were in town for a brief visit combining business and pleasure. The Embassy Suites was perfectly located between Meeting Street and King Street so we were within walking distance of everything we wanted to do downtown. It is a cool property in the fortress-like old citadel. The service was so gracious with the breakfast chefs being especially friendly and fun. The room was great and we appreciated the extra space of a suite. The hot breakfast and evening receptions with cocktails and snacks made it an extra good value. We'll definitely stay here the next time we are in Charleston.

Other reviews here mention the convenient location, historic building, and the friendly service. We have stayed in various Charleston hotels, some more central and some more expensive, but this is the one we are happy to come back to. One sure sign of a well-managed hotel is low staff turnover, and it is gratifying to see many of the same faces when we return. Everyone from the dining room to valet are helpful and friendly. The concierge will set up tours or restaurants. This hotel has perhaps the easiest automobile access of all the downtown hotels.

Stayed here two weeks ago for the third time. Good location, but the hotel has definitely seen better days. I woke up this morning to find my credit card had been charged $300 plus dollars two weeks later, even though the room was paid for in advance. Called the hotel, was put on hold 4 times before someone would speak to me. At this point, I was informed that my credit card had been charged again by mistake and a refund was issued immediately. We will see. My biggest problem is the way it was handled. No one informed me. When I called, not even a simple sorry for the inconvenience. In fact, Ms. Armstrong acted as if I was inconveniencing her! I stay at Hiltons 20-30 nights a year for work, so this was very disappointing. If I had used a debit card, I would have been out $300 for a few days. Beware!

Met our son and his family for a week family vacation. Hotel was within walking distance to shopping and dining on King street or a morning at the French Market. City visitor center a block away where you could sign up for a city tour. Hotel in original Citadel. Pretty inside. Rooms comfortable with lots of room. We used the large indoor courtyard every night as our family living room. Free happy hour every evening was nice. Wonderful staff and service. My only complaint was that the hotel restaurant and bar did not stay open all day. Dining room closed at 9:30 AM every morning and didn't open again until 5:00PM. Bar only open from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM every evening.

My husband and I just stayed 4 nights at Embassy Suites. On the plus side, the staff was very professional, nice and accommodating (early check in, for example). They went out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The beds were very comfortable too. There's free WIFI, a biz center with internet access, and the hotel is well located - just a short walk to King Street, and the free city shuttle. But there's not much you can do about the constraints of the building, a former citadel. There was only one window in the corner of the bedroom, that you could only see out of if you stood on the bed and leaned against the wall. Other friends told me that their suite had NO WINDOWS except for the inside window looking onto the hotel's inner courtyard, which of course, you'd want to keep covered so no one could see in. So the suites are small (the king bedroom measures 10x10-ish) and dark, the furniture a bit tired looking. There are no closets, just an armoire that also contains a safe, so long garments can't hang freely on one side. I think this room would be okay for a family of 3, but there would be no place for luggage or clothes if there were more staying in one room for more than one day.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has an exterior window to let in some light (even if you can't see out of it...

Have stayed here 4 times now to visit my daughter who attends the College of Charleston. Hotel is clean and nice and located within walking distance of everything. Rooms are fairly standard embassy suites with plenty of room, microwave and fridge. Easy to make oneself at home for several days. Breakfast cooked to order and is excellent. Most important are the staff. Tara at the front desk has gone out of her way to make my stay pleasant and never failed to greet me by name with a smile on her face. Tito, who provides cab service to the airport is reliable and a gentlemen who I have trusted to drive my daughter. This is a great choice if you are visiting Charleston and in addition to Tara, you will find all other staff helpful and friendly.
