We stayed here because of the ideal location, however, there is much room for improvement. The room was clean and comfortable, as was the king bed, but, the bathroom had no fan and became a steam bath, never mind no ventilation for toilet use. As mentioned by others, the balcony door is permanently locked, so, no fresh air. As far as the staff goes, some are totally distracted and others seem uninterested. Coffee service each morning was a nice feature, but, 3 out of 4 mornings, the pot was empty and staff seemed annoyed when asked for a refill which took 20 mins one morning. Overall, don't expect a luxury stay and expect to tend to yourself more.

Hotel kind of slow getting rooms turned over.....never had to wait til 4 to check in before. I get that is the official check in time, but come on. Shuttle service starts @ 5:30 and runs every two hrs, not every 30 mins as I would led to believe when I booked.

Balcony is locked....can't use it.

We had reserved a room with a king bed about 2 months before we arrived. We were greeted by friendly staff upon checkin. When we got to our room we had two double beds. Called the front desk and was told the hotel was totally full and they could not accomodate our reservation for a king bed. I was not happy but had no choice but to deal with it. We were only staying for 3 nights thankfully. The bed was comfortable, minus the size, with lots of pillows. Overall the hotel was clean and pleasant. The hotel bar and resuarant on the top floor had a great view of the river and downtown. We ate the breakfast buffet at the hotel twice which had a good selection and I never left hungry. Service at breakfast was great with very pleasant staff.
We used the hotel shuttle once into downtown, it drops off at each end of the Market which was convenient for our dinner plans.
This hotel is not within walking distance to downtown. We chose it because it wasn't as expensive as the downtown hotels but still close enough to catch a taxi or use their shuttle.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again for the location.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1111 and had a view of the river and downtown.

Walk into the hotel and you will see smiles. Everywhere and on everyone. The desk staff made us feel welcome immediately and, after a minimal check-in process, explained all of the amenities available to us at the hotel, maps of the downtown Charleston area, shuttle schedule to and from town and recommended cabs, should we prefer to travel on our own.
The restaurant/bar, located at the top of the building, provides a spectacular view of the city. The breakfast buffet is first rate. The dinner is very good and the she-crab soup is one of the best ever.
Rooms are spotlessly clean and contain all the amenities necessary for a relaxed stay. As the hotel is on the other side of the river from Historic Charleston, the rooms can be had at significantly lower cost than those in the downtown area. And, the free 10 minute shuttle ride ensures you can visit downtown and be sure of a dependable return trip.
We will definitely return.

Dear Bill P,
Southern Hospitality is our number one goal! Our Free shuttle to Downtown is a stress free amenity, let us drop you off Downtown so you can enjoy the sights, shops and restaurants. Our Free shuttle leaves the hotel every 2 hours starting at 7:30 am until 9:30 pm. Our tenured cooks make the best She-Crab soup in all of Charleston. Thank you so much for your business we hope to see you soon!

The room had 2 double beds and the usual facilities and was clean and comfortable.
Buffet breakfast at $9-99 is a bargain and of reasonably good quality. Service on the slow side, as it was on my only visit to the bar. The main plus point of the restaurant and bar is the excellent views over the river towards the downtown area. We did not eat in the restaurant at night. A regular, complimentary shuttle bus to the downtown area is another plus point as its simply not walkable.
We stayed 2 nights and paid £86 per night.

Dear mikebWakefield,
Thanks for choosing our hotel while in Charleston. The panoramic views from the restaurant allow you to see all of Downtown, West Ashley and Folly Beach. It’s a fantastic way to start your vacation while enjoying an adult beverage and mapping out your adventure in Charleston. Our staff can help assist you with directions, favorite spots and the history of some of the buildings in the Downtown area.

The reason for our stay was my friend was having eye surgery. Upon our arrival the front desk staff quickly greeted us with a friendly smile & tried very hard to get a clean room right away. We didn't have a reservation because we were sent over by the VA Clinic at the last moment & all the hotels near the clinic were all full.
Our stay here was very enjoyable & relaxing .The views from the Restaurant & Lounge were AWESOME both day & night, the overall atmosphere was warm & inviting & I had quick service each time, the food was great. The staff in the restaurant at the lunch buffet were very helpful & friendly , the food was very delicious as well.
My friend & I both work in hotels in Beaufort , SC & were impressed on the service & friendliness of everyone we met . Thank all of you .. I am bad at remembering names so please forgive me..

The hotel is well located. Of the multiple Holiday Inn/Expresses in the Charleston area, this is the one on Savannah Highway just over the bridge from the Historic District. It's not walkable to downtown Charleston but as a result is significantly cheaper. While I think you need a car to best explore this city as many things to see/do are outside the CBD, you don't need a car to get to the Historic District as the hotel runs a regular free shuttle. The last run, however, is 9:30 PM so it may not be late enough for some evening activities.

Ridiculously good value, no reason to pay center city premium as the HI Express isn't much more walkable.

Small fitness center and outdoor pool on the 3rd floor. Wasn't warm enough to use the outdoor pool but fitness center was in good condition. Only a few machines but even with hotel nearly full, was non issue. ATM in the lobby and basic brochures. Free WiFi throughout hotel and guest rooms.

Top floor restaurant/bar for all meals + evening lounge and an amazing views. Breakfast was a well priced buffet at $9.99/person. Didn't take advantage of other meals. Free coffee / tea in the lobby in the mornings.

ROOMS: good amount of space for two people and love that sink is outside the bathroom for ease of getting ready. Bizarre lights in that one switch controlled both spaces and no fan, led to very humid bathroom after showers. Rooms have balconies but doors are sealed so you can't access. Plenty of outlets.
