“Wonderful spot right in the center of the city”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

The Indigo Inn is centrally located, so that you can walk out to restaurants for dinner, stroll to walking tours of the city, and visit all the landmarks easily. The 3 story interior court yard is amazing, and a great spot for breakfast or for the complementary evening wine/cheese. Rooms were very comfortable, up-to-date, and well-maintained. Breakfast is complementary, and includes ham and cheese biscuits, yogurt, fruit and cereal. This is a great choice when visiting the city.

I needed to find an Inn close to Market / Meeting Streets in Charleston for myself, my best friend, and a friend visiting from England. One of us has some mobility issues but doesn't want to use a wheelchair, so I needed something close to everything but comfortable to sit around in too. The Indigo Inn fit the bill perfectly. What a CUTE Inn!!!

Parking is on site and just steps from the entrance, making check-in / check-out and retrieving things from your car very convenient.

What made it truly special was the courtyard. We had first floor rooms because of our mobility issues (there is an elevator, but we still wanted first floor). Steps outside our room were comfy tables and chairs where we spent many hours over the three days we stayed, reading or eating breakfast or snacks, or just enjoying the outside air. There are plants all over so even though you are sitting outside other peoples' rooms, you feel very private and never feel you're intruding on anyone else's room privacy. This gave us a place to meet outside our rooms, but still close enough we could easily go back to our rooms if needed. All the other courtyard Inns I checked out required some walking from the room, which meant we just wouldn't have used the courtyards.

The rooms were wonderful! The beds were sumptuous and even my bedbug-phobic friend was more than satisfied with the cleanliness. Although we could rarely hear street noise, it was never enough to wake us. The only window in the room opens into the courtyard; if you look at the hotel from the outside, you quickly realize all the windows there are fake! The bathroom was smallish with a sink behind louvered double doors (we never closed them), and the toilet and bathtub in a separate room. I've decided I need to travel with one of those bleach pens to dab on moldy showers.....ahem. Other than that, the showers have been updated and are fully tiled and modern.

The air conditioning unit unfortunately is under the window and opens to the courtyard. I recognize there are probably more than a dozen restrictions, but it would be wonderful if they could be placed in the outside walls instead. When you're sitting in the courtyard, the din from the air conditioning units is a tiny bit oppressive, but you can still hear the tinkling of the fountains over the noise and we quickly found we could ignore them.

The staff is beyond wonderful --- helpful from the very first moment we arrived. They eagerly help you find things (restaurants, shows, museums) and offer to look things up or make reservations for you. The evening wine and cheese is more than the standard, and the lemonade and tea available all the time are just wonderful. Breakfast is the usual, but large trays are provided so you can put your breakfast together and easily take it out to the courtyard or to your room -- and eating in the courtyard really made it special and fun.

I am already planning to return, this time with my husband who will thoroughly enjoy reading in the courtyard. And I'll bring my bleach pen with me!

Room Tip: While the third floor may be quieter, being able to walk straight out of the first floor rooms into...

My husband and I made our very first visit to Charleston in April. On the advice of a good friend we chose to stay at the Indigo Inn. My friend in now elevated to a new height! This was the most wonderful place I could imagine. Because we were visiting Savannah for a couple of days during April, we registered at the Indigo Inn for 5 nights only. When we returned from Savannah to continue our Charleston adventure, there was "no room at the inn" so we stayed at their sister location, The Jasmine House Inn. I will address that stay in that particular section of TripAdvisor.

From the moment we arrived at Indigo we were taken care of so well. Lorenzo helped us with out luggage up to the 3rd floor. All the time we were in Charleston, Lorenzo was a smiling face and presence which was always welcome by us. At the desk, Ignatius was the consummate host. Always gracious and helpful, he was welcoming and made us feel right at home. He is a true gentleman.

Our room was lovely and although small, very comfortable. Because we had made our travel plans late, we were unable to get more than a queen bed. Hint to travelers to this lovely location..........book EARLY! The queen bed was a small inconvenience to us though. The charms of the Inn more than made up for it. Breakfast (and a generous one at that) is served buffet-style in the charming lobby. You then have a choice of taking it back to your room or going into the beautiful courtyard. It is an oasis of plants and a fountain and a good selection of places to sit. In the late afternoon, wine, cheese, crackers and a small salad (maybe chicken, pasta or whatever) is served and once again you can relax in that lovely courtyard. During the day 2 cold beverages are on hand.

Parking is right on site and you are given a pass to put on your dashboard.

I heartily recommend The Indigo to anyone visiting Charleston. Of course there are the predictable chain hotels in the city but for southern atmosphere and charm, you would go a long was to find anything better. We felt totally immersed in the Charleston experience by staying there.

Room Tip: Book really early! We visited in April and booked in January. I would book in the fall next time.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights towards the end of April and it was a very nice hotel with a great location, close to almost everything. Their breakfast was fine, and every evening at 6 they serve wine and cheese and more. The people at the desk were very nice and helpful. Beds were comfortable. The room was rather small but clean. The only negative thing I would say is the bathroom was way too small. There was a sink with mirror in a separate area and that was fine, but the shower and toilet were squeezed into a space that you had to squish yourself between the toilet and the glass shower door to close the bathroom door. Not a major catastrophe but inconvenient. Loved the courtyard. We took our wine and cheese out there - they had plenty of comfortable seating with lots of plants and trees.

This location is convenient to historic areas, easy walking distance. Nice interior courtyard to enjoy the daily generous breakfast buffet and wine/cheese offering. We had great assistance from Jerica, concierge, to plan dinners and tours, very helpful. Some rooms need updating of bathrooms.

Indigo Inn was a comfortable oasis in the middle of historic Charleston. Comfortable rooms. Great open courtyard. Hearty breakfast included a little heavy on carbs. A welcome wine and cheese time in the afternoon. Location is great. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. A little pricy but c/w other places around.

Excellent location near the market and the historic sights. The room was large and comfortable. The Staff was friendly & accommodating. Breakfast laid out in reception area, which is quite small & not adequate for eating. There is a large pleasant central courtyard with tables, but if the weather is not good, there is nowhere to eat but your room. Wine & cheese served late afternoon was a nice touch. Also, the shower/toilet room is tiny.

Room Tip: Ground floor not far from reception - if you need to carry breakfast to your room, or to courtyard.
