We are checking out today and while we did not have the horrible experiences of some here, this is probably one of the worst Marriotts we have ever stayed at. The rooms are dated, the bathrooms small--you have to shut the door to get in the bathroom, and the bathroom was a bit dirty. Worse, we are here for my daughter to go to MUSC and we told them she was sick when we checked in so that we could get a quiet room. They put us directly above the pool construction area which included loud drilling and noise starting before 8:30am every morning, including Easter Sunday. The television picture was horrible and the channels offered were weak--no Disney channel or amc or hgtv but about 6 ESPNs. We asked the front desk to print something and it was a HUGE imposition--nice attitude. The shuttle downtown cost $6 per adult, left 5 minutes early and the one driver was very rude. Marcus the Bellman was an exception--very friendly and helpful. The restaurant breakfast was okay but our breakfast was included. The problem was the server didn't know that and was a wench about it--acted like we were lying. When it was finally straightened out she continued to be rude the remaining days. In prior years we stayed at the Courtyard and while the lobby is not as nice, the rooms and staff are soooo much better. Oh, we also did laundry and the room was disgustingly dirty with trash overflowing. Not at all up to par.

I was here for 2 days, I was upgraded to a river view with a balcony. This was a nice gesture, but there were constant 40 - 50 MPH, but my room could not be kept warm due to the gaps in the sliding glass door (3/4"). The gaps gave wind noises that made it difficult to sleep with an all night howl. The change in air pressure due to the poor doors even "flushed" the toilets, leaving little or no water in the toilets.

The room was very small, and of the older Marriott style.

On the Two times we went to eat at the restaurant in the lobby (eggs for breakfast, soup and salad for lunch) we waited over 40 min, each time for our food, As the menu was very limited, and the service EXTREMELY poor and SLOW, I would never recommend anyone to eat at the restaraunts at this hotel. As Business people we needed to get in and out. This is not available at this location .

Room Tip: It is a LONG way from where you might want to be. I can take 30-45 Min. to get a taxi, as they are not readily available at the Hotel

I was expecting a bit more, the lobby is nice and comfortable, as is the restaurant and bar areas.
The breakfast buffet was just average, and the room, while comfortable, had a small bathroom, shower had mold in the grout, didn't drain well, and the towels were dingy. This hotel has no view. I've stayed at both the Marriott Courtyard across the street, and it has a fabulous view, and is less expensive. I also like the Marriott Renaissance downtown.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice now. We really like the rooms and accessibility of the hote in relation to downtown. They do have a shuttle (fee) that is worth it if you're going to be going downtown. It's easy and convenient. Breakfast in the room has been wonderful. The people are really friendly and if you get a room on a high floor, you'll get to enjoy a great view too!

Besides having a beautiful lobby and a great restaurant and bar staff this place is horrible. no indoor pool.
The phone just rings at the front desk and roomservice closes an hour early if they even answer. The rooms smell like mildew bad especially on 804.
It is a 2 star at best.
The bar staff is the only bright spot the are knowledgeable on drinks and food. Don't believe the star rating all flash and no substance.
The bathrooms are a mold and caulk nightmare
contacted front desk they were good at saying sorry but nothing else

Room Tip: stay at hotels in old quarter across from square if you want good service
