No one died. There were no bed bugs. But if you have any choice at all, go to the Marriott Courtyard downtown instead.

This property is very dated. It's inconveniently located. It does volume, not experiences. There are many other options in this beautiful city.

Stayed here in Oct for several day girls trip . Hotel was fine-shows some signs of wear and tear, could definitely use updating in rooms. Our room had nice linens and comfortable beds, that is the best I can say about the room, there were signs of water staining on the ceiling and the room had a musty mildew smell, there was some chipped ceiling particles on the floor and the AC in the room had to be be turned down to the coolest setting to get room down to 70 degree point. The restaurant was not very good-there are such great places to eat in Charleston-this is not one of them. We all loved the outdoor bar and the outdoor grounds were lovely, the location was off the beaten track , but the shuttle was awesome and ran pretty regularly.I sort of liked the more remote area of this hotel. cold just relax by pool, very quiet and outdoor lounge was really lovely. This place has potential, it's location is relaxed, away from the hustle of Charleston but a shuttle ride away from all the action, they should renovate ASAP and the restaurant could use improvement, the employees were very helpful and eager to please. This was such a great trip we had such an excellent time and Charleston is a fabulous place to visit-,Marriott needs to spend some money on refurbishing this location.

We recently stayed at the Charleston Marriott for my husband's Citadel reunion. The room was nicely furnished and very clean, with a king sized bed. Since it was technically winter the bed was covered in a duvet that was overly warm, and it was difficult to adjust the air conditioning to find a comfortable level at night. It looked nice, but blankets that could be pulled on or pushed off would have been a better choice. I was concerned about finding food that I could eat at the hotel restaurant since I am gluten intolerant. I took muffins of my own, but found that the breakfast buffet included some very tasty items in which I could indulge. They had a wide selection of fresh berries which seemed freshly picked (although I'm sure they were not)--the quality was excellent. In addition they had the usual potato dishes, bacon, sausage, eggs and for the non-gluten intolerant-cereal. It was a nice buffet. We also had lunch there, and they had some good freshly made salads. The location of the hotel is within easy walking distance of The Citadel, although it would be a fairly long walk to get to the historic city center. The hotel has a large patio area and pool, as well as an open air bar which is reached by an outside elevator.

Located on the edge of the historic city. Most patrons appeared business people. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room were modern and clean. The pool area is very nice and would be a great place to hang out on a sunny warm day. Please note it is a short drive to the "tourist district" in old Charleston. I would stay in this hotel again. It is a very good Marriott.

Visitors to "Ol' Charleston" -- beware! This huge hotel is a 'conventioneers factory'. Its peripheral location in relation to historic Charleston but immediate proximity to the SC Medical Center should be a red flag not to expect much 'southern hospitality' here. And we did not get it -- starting at the reception desk. The second floor room was located in proximity to the coke machines and the three elevator lobby -- a kind of traffic crossroads. The room itself was postage stamp size but contained two queen beds (although we had requested a king size bed). So moving around in this room required a bit of maneuvering. The view out of the window (see attached picture) was like an industrial landscape. Even the TV reception was only analog and there wasn't a channel guide in the room -- you had to call the front desk to get channel information! And all of this for nearly $250 per night.

Stayed two nights at this hotel on our way to Florida. Great time of the year for a vacation south and truly an historic area to visit. The hotel was located easily and handy to most of the attractions we were planning to visit. The staff was extremely accommodating and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.
I left behind my tablet and was nervous that it wouldn't be found. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and I received it in the mail a few days later.

A friend and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights for a conference. The room was nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable; however, if you are allergic to feather pillows or down comforters you MUST ask for a "feather free" room! We found this out the hard way. The walls are somewhat thin when it comes to noise. We could hear the lady in the next room making phone calls at 6 a.m. in the morning (and could clearly hear every word she was saying). If you like your room temperature slightly on the cool side you will have to crank the air conditioner way down to get any cool air. The room is equipped with a small refrigerator; however, the one in our room was only slightly cool at best and there appeared to be no temperature adjustment on the frig. The hotel has Internet (at a cost of $9.95 a day) and the connection is very slow. There are no restaurants close by the hotel so take advantage of the hotel shuttle unless you want to get lost. The roads in the downtown area are one way and it is especially confusing at night. I really don't mean to make this place sound bad because it isn't, the issues above are mostly minor but for the price they charge per night I believe some of these issues should be resolved by management.

Room Tip: Take the hotel shuttle to get around because the roads in the downtown area are very hard to handle...
