I was asked to review by Hotels.com and it has not showed up yet, so just to make potential guests aware.....this hotel is so gross. Do not stay here. They clearly have no standards about cleanliness or safety. The shower had two inches of water in the bottom with a dead roach in it that had to be three to four inches long. The damaged ceiling tile in the bathroom was plugged up with a wad of toilet paper. Burned out light bulbs. Dirt collected in corners of the rooms. Bathroom had some weird remnant of a 1970's rotary dial phone mounted on the wall which they had just ripped the receiver out. Apparently this was also the bathroom fan?? Which did not work anyway. And caked with dust. Gross, gross, gross. Stained chairs, stained carpet, torn curtains. Do not stay at this hotel.

I booked this hotel to visit USC and wasn't expeting much (mostly because we didn't pay much at Hotels.com!). But the staff was friendly upon check in and the rooms were bigger and nicer than expected (especially for the price paid) I'm presuming because they unexpectedly upgraded us to the tower.
The convenience cannot be beat for visiting USC and while it's nothing 'fancy' like the S or the M hotel chains located a few blocks away, it has just about everything you would need, is clean and is less money than those options so even if you're only there for a short time then you'll be just fine!

The location was very convenient. (downtown) Staff was courteous and had automatically given us an upgrade to the Tower section. It is the older section but with larger rooms, and based on other reviews, perhaps cleaner.
It is either old or rustic depending on your point of view. We found it to have a certain ambiance to it reflecting an old southern charm.
Breakfast buffet (about $8 or $9) was adequate and convenient since we were driving a long distance that day. Given more time we would have opted to eat elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the "tower". They are larger and are an upgrade from regular rooms

Booked for a birthday weekend away with my husband. Mainly because the comedy zone was there. Upon arrival the night clerk seemed more annoyed than helpful. We had a bed and breakfast package and they did not give us the vouchers so I had to ask in the morning. Per the web page I expected a nice hotel with good service. The room we had was in what they call the "u" building. Horrible parking then an outside walkway to the room. It was ok for two rooms made into one....but very old building. The hair dryer (the entire wall unit) fell off the wall when I tried to use it. There was a wall air conditioner on the far side of room which made it hot on the side where the bed was for sleeping. In the morning the breakfast buffet was ok but none of it was hot even in the warmers. We did enjoy the comedy zone but will be driving there next time from the Embassy on Graystone Blvd.

Our room had roaches and was extremely dirty -- bathroom had not been cleaned, towels were dirty, hair and other gunk around filthy coffee pot and sink, bad smell in room, roaches in the bed, stains in the carpet and tiles in the bathroom. Moved to a cleaner room, but AC did not work in 100+ degree weather, housekeeping only cleaned the room once during our 3-day stay, wallpaper was peeling, and curtains were dirty. All hotels in the area were full at the time, so we were stuck. Staff is not rude, but they are definitely not friendly. No apology given for any of this.

Room Tip: Stay away from this hotel!

Came here for a one night convention.... It's an interesting layout for a hotel....almost looks like 2 hotels that combined.... But overall, it was just fine... The desk staff was great and I stayed in the "tower" which I think I would have liked better anyway. No complaints really.... just a little dated, but maintained.

Room Tip: Ask for the tower, it has interior corridors, the other section is exterior.

I wonder it the hotel has been upgraded since some the reviews. We stayed in a tower room and it was clean and the carpet and bedspreads looked new. the only complaint was the non-smoking room smelled like smoke. Remember to ask for a tower room when booking, the other rooms must have been part of an old motel and have external doors.

Room Tip: Ask for a tower room.
