Owner description: Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to nearly 2,000 animals that represent more than 350 species from around the world. A visit to the Zoo will play host to an array of wild adventures from a diving expedition on a Pacific coral reef to a safari through the plains of Africa to an interactive Outback encounter with a flock of sociable lorikeets. The Botanical Garden boasts 70-acres of unparalleled beauty and is considered one of the America's best public gardens. Dramatic and themed gardens showcase more than 4,300 species of native and exotic plants, providing a living classroom for gardeners and non-gardeners alike. The Garden also is the gateway to natural river views and spectacular valley overlooks. In addition, guests can view structural remains dating back to the early 1800s with South Carolina's textile industry and the Civil War.

This zoo is smaller than say Brookfield in Chicago but nice. It is clean with plenty of exhibits.

For over 20 years this has been one of my favorite places. As my children were growing up we kept a family pass. Now I am taking my grandchildren there and every day is a good day at Riverbanks. They now have a carousel, a childrens train and of course a pony if you're talk enough. For a total day you can also visit the Botanical Garden. The only thing I wish was different, they replaced the seal area with kangaroos. I like kangaros but loved watching the seals.

The zoo was very enjoyable and reasonably priced. We saw more adults at the zoo than children and everyone seemed to having a fun time.

If you don't mind walking, the zoo is fun entertainment for both adults and children.

Improvements were being made last time we visited. Some exhibits were not open. The best part for me was sitting watching the fish in the a/c. The gardens are very pretty.
