While the South Carolina State House is a fine State Capitol building, the movie about the building and the subsequent tour of the building was disappointing. The movie provided lots of information but the narration was annoyingly rushed, as if the narrator had to speak quickly to fit too much information into too little time. This was unfortunate. Then the tour guide, I believe a paid employee, proceeded to repeat, almost word for word, the information presented in the movie. So sad. I am sure there is so much history that could be covered to enrich the experience of visiting this historic building.

Grounds are well maintained and easily found from downtown areas. Parking was difficult at first but go "behind" the State House where the campus begins and it is easier to find a meter. We only explored the outside grounds but it was nice. Don't understand the confederate flag being flown but I understand it's a local disagreement too and I'm not one to judge!

A very nice building. Unfortunately, when I went, there were a ton of school groups there full of small children. The tour office was very nice, but told me that a tour was about to start and then never started it. I wound up just tagging along on one of the school groups' tours.

The grounds of the capitol are very, very nice. Very pretty. Lots of monuments to look at. There is a lot of Civil War and Confederate history here.

Walking distance to USC.

The tours are great. Seeing government in action or inaction is even better. This is a great place to spend a day especially during the legislative session.
