On a one night stopover in Columbia we were thrilled to happen upon Garibaldi's as we walked from our hotel, the Inn at USC, to Five Points for dinner. It looked busy for a Tuesday night, the lighting was subdued and the menu looked good. We went in, without a reservation, and were given a table right away. The service was great. The waiter came over immediately, took our drink order and told us about the specials, mostly fresh fish. The menu had everything from pizza to pasta and meat dishes in a range of prices. We split a caesar salad and I had an amazing swordfish, grits and spinach entree while my husband had redfish with a couple of fried oysters on the side. They were both delicious, served nice and hot and well presented. We didn't try any dessert but there was a big choice and they all sounded really good.
I would go back to Columbia again just to eat at this restaurant.

We had been living in Columbia for about a year when we finally decided to try Garibaldi's. We had been told by friends that it was one of the better restaurants in town but the construction in Five Points (spring 06) had kept us away.

The service was great - probably the best we've had at any restaurant here. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was packed.

However, our meal was only so-so. The wine list is pretty limited if you are not ordering a full bottle. We had the calamari as an appetizer - that was great. But our entrees were just okay. My chicken milanese seemed like week-night make-at-home fare. My husband's sesame-encrusted tuna was a bit too well done. Your best bet is probably to stick to the more traditional Italian seafood here.

Garibaldi's has a decent atmosphere (and they were accomodating a group of 20 people at one end of the restaurant w/out any visible problems) and a good reputation but if you're looking for the best meal in town, this probably isn't the place.

Great food. Really, really good. You can tell everything is fresh. Get the Shrimp and Risotto app, you won't regret it. Try the crab stuffed mahi or the Steak Garibaldi for the entree.

The interior is lively, yet has a romantic feel. The waiter was okay. Good size portions. Only real negative was lack of parking, had to use a valet.

Great food, particularly the seafood specials.
Two bad marks though...one is no children's menu (for those of us who have the little darlings). Also, do yourself a favor and valet the car, don't do what I did and park behind the place in the "car park". I was nearly towed away from there last week by "Absolute Towing" based in West Columbia. I think Garibaldi's ought to offer free valet parking because these towing companies are preying on unsuspecting customers and have no real right to tow you because there aren't any clear signs warning you of illegal parking, they just want to rip you off!
