The Horry County museum is a "hidden jewel", in the Town of Conway, SC, see for yourself how interesting it can be. Enjoy the unbelievable wealth of history and knowledge that is available to you for free. I let anyone I know how great a place it is to visit, plan to spend a few hours there to take in every bit of this excellent place.

What a great little local museum in an old school. It even has a fish tank from ATM! Really enjoyed learning about the history and to think it's all free!

Well maintained museum in a large old schoolhouse. We couldn’t stay long but enjoyed learning about the local history that one often misses on a beach vacation. Appreciated the inclusion of the African-American experience.

About 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach but so worth it. Small but unique museum of local history. My kids enjoyed it and learned a lot. No entrance fee and lovely building!

The centerpiece (literally!) is an aquarium that was featured on the Animal Planet TV show “Tanked.” It is a tall cylindrical tank inside a larger, shorter oval tank around which a spiral staircase leads visitors to the second floor. We happened to be there a day of aquarium enthusiasts visited so we got to listen in to the Museum’s director tell the story of the tank’s design, construction and installation – very interesting! Check the Museum’s events calendar before planning your visit; interesting and free lectures, films and exhibits are offered.

If you want a history of Horry County and Conway check this place out. Free admission, several displays throughout the museum which is a converted school. They have presentations on Wednesdays on different parts of the history of the area.

We love the local museum and find it very interesting showing local facts & artifacts plus a BONUS .. amazing fish tank with local fish. My 4 year old grandson enjoys visiting time after time and it never gets old for him. So happy they used the school in such a positive way. Thanks CONWAY.

Went here with some friends. This is a museum, a great aquarium in the middle of circular stairs! This was a school, and now the classrooms feature Native American, Natural History, a military exhibit and a lot more. Self guided, explore all you want. Spend as much or as little as you want.

I’m a history buff. I love anything to do with history and since I am a Conway native, going to this museum is a no-brainer.

First off, it is FREE. There is no fee for visiting and there is plenty to see.

Second, the variety of exhibits for a small museum is great. From local wildlife to the history of Myrtle Beach and a little of everything else, there is enough to pique anyone’s interest.

Third, the staff is great. The museum director, Mr. Hill, is a native like me and knows pretty much everything there is to know about the area. The rest of the staff are friendly and that just adds to the atmosphere!

An hour to two hours is adequate to tour the museum, so this would be a great way to spend a morning between breakfast and lunch.

Note that the museum is only open Tuesday through Saturday, though.
