“A nice walk with pretty, interesting scenery-- suitable for a 4 year-old.”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

We walked the trail to the shell mound on the first day of January-(no problems with bugs). To get to the trail, you need to go into the state park entrance across the street from the Edistonian. The trail is flat and wide, and is somewhere around 3 to 3.4 miles round-trip. The shell mound is interesting, although was not as big as we were anticipating-- apparently due to thousands of years of erosion. Our son, who is an active 4 year-old, enjoyed the hike and its opportunities for exploring. He spotted a small group if dolphins swimming near the mound, and we even saw a wild game-cock! Worth the $10 and 2 or 3 hours we spent there.

“Great Bike Ride from the Beach Campground”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

There is a bike path along the highway all the way to the trail to the Indian Shell Mound. From there the ride is thru the woods on hard packed trails and across several wooden bridges. It opens up along the way to overlook the large creek that flows thru the area. Great bike ride.

Rent a bike and enjoy the beautiful live oaks and palms trees with an easy bike to the oyster mound, which overlooks a marsh and creek. Beautiful!

“Very educational”
Reviewed 16 June 2013

This is a great trail to walk down to the mounds. Beautiful creeks, very educational. You must visit the Edisto Educational Center. You can fish off the docks as well as put your boat in at Live Oak Landing.
