Wow. This place is breathtakingly beautiful, if you like natural scenery and history combined. The live oaks are stunning.

“Desolate unspoiled beach!”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

The Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area offers a nice snapshot of how plantations and agriculture were managed in the old South. But the real reason to visit this gem is to walk across the boardwalk and onto the beach side of the Area. What you will find is unspoiled Atlantic Ocean coastline and nothing else. Nothing can be removed from the beach by law, so there are amazing driftwood formations, shells and washed-ashore treasures, and gnarled remnants of shoreline trees.

Take a long walk, or find a sheltered area and hunker down to enjoy the roar of the sea, the fine powdery sand, and the utter desolation and pristine beauty of this wonderful preserved chunk of coastline!

“Do NOT miss this one”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

This is one of the best places to visit on the island---and it is free!! A massive old, but still operating plantation, under the direction of the DNR is well worth the time. Lots of interesting history via a self-guided driving tour. The best stopping point is the beach. It is not the standard beach you see everywhere else. Here, the water comes all the way up to the trees on the north side of the beach. If you like to take pictures, you will love this place.
