My wife and I stayed in this cottage for one week. We have stayed in this set of cottages before, just three more away from the main gate, but not this one. We love getaways to Edisto Island.
Check-in was a breeze with helpful and friendly staff. Same for check-out.
This cabin was very clean, cozy, well-appointed and remarkably free of insects. The other cabin we have stayed at (completely different owner than this one) always had problems with roaches, and I understand the difficulty of keeping them at bay in the low country coastal areas. We had even armed ourselves with a can of Raid, prepared for battle, but we never saw a single bug of any type in the cottage. Bravo!
While the cabin was clean in general, there were a couple of areas on the white painted walls with black greasy handprints, obviously the residue of a careless service provider of some sort. One of our days was a rainout, which we used to catch up on our personal reading and just let the world pass by. Eventually I became a bit bored and the sight of those greasy handprints drove me to trying to remove them. I mixed a concoction of dish washing soap and water, took some elbow grease, and completely removed all of them in about 15 minutes. Wow, what a difference! I'm thinking I should have sent them a $115 cleaning bill. :)
If you're interested in privacy, you won't find much here, as these cottages are arranged such that you end up staring into the cottage next door. You can't help it, it's the way they laid the cottages out, to maximize use of space.
But the biggest problem with this particular cottage is that it is located directly next door to the Wyndham welcome center, where guests of the entire resort check in and out. Car doors opening and slamming shut on a nearly constant basis was about to drive us mad. It sounded like a battlefield eventually. It is the first cottage in the entire resort, and as such, it is located BEFORE the main security gate, so you don't enjoy that level of safety. We had no safety problems, but our parking lot also served as the turning around area for wayward travelers, a couple of which became "stuck" in the little parking lot. As a result, a security guard knocked on our door once and asked us to move our car while a driver of a large RV attempted to maneuver the beast out of the lot. Sheez.
All in all, while it did not ruin our stay, we won't be choosing this cottage for our future Edisto Island getaways. Sad really, as it was so cozy and quaint.
