Reviewed 12 August 2014

Hotel Florence is an experience to remember. It's new and it's old (old building re-fashioned as hote), with a spirit all its own. Extraordinarily friendly staff, both in hotel and in the on-site restaurant. Near the Science Center, Performing Arts Center, and brand new fabulous art museum opening in October.

I stayed as part of a Board of Directors retreat. Wasn't familiar with the property and didn't know what to expect. The staff was very friendly. The hotel is a refurbished old hotel. Rooms were very clean. Bed was very comfortable. The bathrooms were very well done which is unusual for rehab jobs. We ate onsite at Victor's for meals and used their meetings rooms. A lot has been done right in the area that made for and enjoyable couple days in Florence.

Dining, room comfort, character, staff and cleanliness are top notch. The ground level restaurant and bar were excellent. Downtown Florence is in the midst of a renaissance and very quiet right now. This phase of Florence does not detract from this jewel and the adjacent Science Center and Performing Arts Center plus some up and coming dining spots around the corner.

Room Tip: Business center and exercise room were excellent as well

Every once in a while , you have the good fortune to find a gem of a hotel in your travels; the Hotel Florence is just that. Situated in the urban redevelopment section of downtown Florence near the newly completed Performing Arts Center, this year-old refurbished hotel (formerly the old Schofield Hardware building) is a delightful experience. The rooms are comfortable and cozy with new bedding and a large bathroom, although our room had no view ( the wall of a building next door).
The open area hall outside of each room on the floor is very wide and has a seating area with 4 wing back chairs in a conversation group which is where you'll find your morning coffee, cold flavored water and fresh grapes. You'll also find the business center where you can find a quiet place to work (computer and printer provided). The main entry foyer is quaint and open with plenty of conversational seating, the front desk, a snack shop and the entrance to Victors, the restaurant for the hotel. Victors didn't start out well for us. We had 12 people (2 young children under 4 and one young lady 12 years old). It was crowded this evening and we had some service issues where we had a long wait for food, kids meals did not come out first as requested causing the young ones to be restless. Other orders came out wrong - just a bad execution overall. But once we complained, the true management attention to problem solving came to the forefront. First they solved the food distribution issue, next they removed charges for some of the food, next they planned a comp breakfast for our group for the next morning. Well thought out ...well done.
The staff is well trained and accommodation and you' enjoy interfacing with them.
We wholeheartedly recommend this gem of a facility.

We are so happy you chose to stay at Hotel Florence. The hotel is located within walking distance of Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center, Florence County Complex, restaurants, shopping and the business district! We do apologize for the issues you encountered at Victor’s, the restaurant located on the first floor of Hotel Florence. We are happy to hear it was resolved quickly. We strive to make your guest experience as comfortable and effortless as possible. We hope you decide to stay with us again the next time you visit Florence!

This is the second time I have stayed in Hotel Florence in the past month for business. I love the hotel and the staff! The history of the building is incredible, and they even have one of the brick walls that was burned in the great fire. If you meet Mike Long, general manager, definitely ask him for a tour of the property. The first time I was here, I was in a corner room with 'lots of sunlight. This week, I am in the room next door to my first room. I thought about asking to switch rooms but after being here for a night...I like this room and have chosen to stay in it. The penthouse is incredible and definitely spacious, perfect for a party. The suites are generously proportioned. The restaurant downstairs (Victor's) has wonderful food! To emphasize that point, I was here for four days my first visit....I never visited another restaurant because I kept finding new things I wanted to try. The crab cakes, scallops wrapped in bacon, the wedge, and the buttermilk porkchops are FABULOUS!

If you are in Florence, it's a no brainer - you should stay at Hotel Florence.

Was looking for a stop over on the drive to Florida, found this hotel which looked nice on the website. When you pull into town you might want to turn around as Florence is let's say not the nicest place. For example the local police sit in the hotel parkig lot all night. Avoid the restaurant in the hotel unless you want to drop some serious coin for an average meal.
Overall if you do not need to go to Florence don't bother. But this is a diamond in the rough.

Thank you for choosing Hotel Florence and for taking the time to write a review to let others know about us. We're a new boutique hotel, just over 1 year old, and excited to be part of a huge revitalization of downtown Florence. The community has really embraced it and over the next 12-24 months, everyone is going to see an amazing transformation take place in the downtown area. We have a brand new museum opening in October and the new Performing Arts Center is one of a kind. It's our mission, as well as that of Victor's Bistro, to exceed our guests' expectations and create a memorable experience. Please come back and see us again soon.

New boutique hotel in downtown Florence. Lot's of urban renewal and new businesses starting up. Regional art museum opening in fall, around the corner.Major medical building under construction a block away.Several new restaurants opening in next year. Will be a destination similar to a smaller, inland southern Charleston-type location.Good location less than 10 miles from I95.Dining right now limited to Victor's, a very good restaurant, but a little pricey for the economy right now.Excellent management and all staff trained in the Marriott-happy employee model.

Room Tip: Rooms we saw all a little different as the hotel is actually 3 buildings joined together. Manager Mi...
