My wife and I visited this museum in the historic Georgetown district on a recent visit. We wanted to learn more about the area, plus I was researching a great great grandfather who had lived in Georgetown and was buried there. I had earlier found his grave, but had been unsuccessful in locating his house (I had pictures of it taken in 1947). The museum director connected us with a digital librarian at the county library who helped us locate the house.
The museum will be locating very soon to a much larger space which will give them more room for current displays as well as room for special, changing exhibits.

I am embarressed to say that I have been visiting & living part time in Georgetown, SC since just before Hurricane Hugo (1988) & just visited this museum this past week even though I have had a family membership for almost two years. What a wonderful collection of our local history going back to the Indians. It is an exhibit that you cannot take in - in just one visit. The new excitement is that we are now renovating a building near Front Street - our main street - and will have more room for these wonderful exhibits and be nearer to our visitors - so do come see us. The length of your visit will vary with your interest.

A quaint, small-town historical museum that houses artifacts dealing with every aspect of the county's history. I especially liked the information on the pre-revolutionary war and slave eras. There is a nice room downstairs that highlights military history, uniforms, etc.
It was very quiet the day we visited and we had the museum and host to ourselves. She was happy to answer questions and point out things of interest to us.
