My husband and i stopped off in Georgetown on our way to Charleston and discovered this amazing restaurant for lunch. Although we showed up close to the end of lunch hours, we were warmly greeted by the owner, Rich, and seated with a lovely view of downtown. The building is a beautiful old downtown jewel that was only surpassed by the wait staff and food. High praise is deserved.

Last night's dinner at the Rice Paddy was excellent. We had heard that it was worth the hour's drive from Charleston, and now we know that's true. The ingredients were fresh and each plate was prepared to perfection. The new executive chef, Steve, has already made a great restaurant even better.

The crab cake was incredibly disappointing. It used to be so great, but no longer. I could have gotten the BLT at any diner. Chowder was good as was peppermint ice cream. Hope things get better soon or will have to change my lunch choice next time I visit

When visiting the SC coast, my in-laws have taken us here a few times over the last 15 years or so and it has always been superior to any where else we have eaten of this caliber. This visit our waitress was especially good and the 5oz. Filet with crab and a sauce (a bernaise like sauce) was quite tasty and tender and the breads were delicious. This restaurant use to be at a different location and the new location is much nicer.

The Rice Paddy is an elegant restaurant with a beautiful, elegant, bar, in the historic downtown area of Georgetown. It's located in a nicely restored and maintained historic "bank" building right on Front Street. On good weather there is sidewalk dining as well. Menu offers a very nice variety, and the food is excellent. Very friendly, professional staff. And a note to anyone seeing this after September's devastating fire in Georgetown - the Rice Paddy was not effected. It is very much still open for business.
A very nice, calming, tasteful respite.
