Description: The River Room has served delectable coastal-influenced fare to a tremendous following of loyal patrons since 1984.Moderately-priced lunch items include our World Famous Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Creole and Pecan Chicken Salad served with apples and grapes. The dinner menu features fresh, grilled fish such as Carolina grouper, yellow-fin tuna and Atlantic salmon. Chef specialties include Herb-crusted Grouper, McClellanville Crab Cakes and Twin Filets of Beef with Blue Cheese ButterThe River Room is located in the historic J.B. Steel Building. In 1888 when the J.B. Steele Building opened, it housed two businesses known as the Steele-Moses stores. Downstairs, customers inspected dry goods and groceries displayed on massive hardwood counters, and upstairs they could be fitted for custom-made hats.Today, the building’s history is evident throughout and is enhanced with tasteful nostalgic décor. The dining room extends 50 feet into the Sampit River; its panoramic windows offer expansive harbor views. Nautical and turn-of-the-century antiques are on display, and an intimate bar showcases the restaurant’s wine collection.Children will surely make a beeline for the giant reef aquarium filled with colorful sea life.

We ate at the River Room twice over the long Labor Day weekend.
Our first dinner was the evening we arrived, tired from the road.
Shrimp and Grits and a scallop shrimp pasta dish revived us and whetted our appetite to come back.

Three nights later we returned for late night appetizers and dessert.
The McClellanville Crab Balls are out of this world!
We also had a lobster dip with huge fresh tortilla chips that was amazing.
To finish well, we had the Peanut Butter Pie- a smooth, rich peanut mousse inside a dark chocolate cookie crust with a top layer chocolate ganache, garnished with fresh whipped cream and a sprig of mint.
Heaven on a Plate- SOOOOOO Good!!!!
The servers were helpful with good suggestions, and forgiving too- I accidentally knocked my glass of water off the table onto the floor and Ashton, our server, did not make me feel like a fool. She was warm and personable, and it's that down home, real person connection that keeps people coming back again and again- as well as the awesome food.

So yes, we'll be back on our next visit to Georgetown.

This is always a nice place to stop for a meal that will always be good. Being reliable may not sound exciting but it is a very good thing. Also, it's often open when many of the other places are closed.

The hotel recommended this place. It was excellent. My wife's goat cheese salad was one of the best she's ever had and she is a vegetarian and eats lots of salad. I had the grouper, which was thick and meaty cut and very good. The best thing of the night though was the grits. They were easily the best I've ever had. It's located in the downtown area and looks out on the water. Would absolutely go back.

Took a quick day trip to Georgetown and had a local recommend this restaurant to us. We got there about 2:00pm (it shuts for lunch at 2:30pm) and were immediately seated by the window, with a great view of the HarborWalk and river. It is has a lot of wood, is dark, and has an old nautical theme inside. Neat decorations on the walls. Liked the table which had a bunch of corks inlayed too!

But the food, I mean that is the reason we are here right? It was DELICIOUS! I got the boiled shrimp plate and the shrimp were HUGE and perfectly cooked. Came with a small cup of white slaw (that could have been a little bigger) and a roll. My friend got the 8oz angus hamburger lunch special and fries and loved it. We wished we had room for dessert.

The waitress was very friendly and kept our iced tea filled to the brim! We would definitely be back when in this area again. After reading reviews on here, I would like to try their Shrimp & Grits!

Went for a quick lunch and LOVED it! Had a beautiful view of the water from our table and our waitress was such a sweetheart. Got the shrimp and grits and it was SO GOOD I recommend it to any and everyone- probably the best I've ever had and for such a great price too.
