you will love this museum, it tells the history of art by using art painted in South, or by Southerners or about the South. Even a Georgia O'Keefe painted when she was in the south. Truly wonderful beautiful paintings. Many jasper johns, Andrew wyeths, jonathan greens

If I could rate this place below 1 star I would. We were visiting this area on our vacation. I came here with my family and we were followed and harassed multiple times during out 10 minute visit by two white older men. They took turned following us around the room and warning us that our children "might" be too close to the art and that we needed to be 5 feet from the walls. They even had the audacity to tell us 5 minutes into our time there that when we were ready we could exit via the 2nd floor versus the main exit. There were countless other families there but I we were the only ones harassed. Being the only non-white family in the museum had us stand out like a sore thumb. And although all of our children were behaving, quietly observing and walking by our side. The men continued to bother only our group. Needless to say we left the museum after the fourth encounter with these workers. Our children were upset because they did not understand why we were being followed, if they were on their best behavior. I noticed we are not the only family that has been discriminated against at this facility. Clearly this IS NOT A CHILD FRIENDLY FACILITY and if you are a MINORITY be aware that THEY WILL HARASS YOU until you leave the building.

Thank you so much for taking time to leave a review. I'm sorry that your visit was disappointing. Our security staff is trained first and foremost to surveil the galleries and protect the artwork, but their intent is never to make visitors feel uncomfortable. We regularly welcome visitors of all races, nationalities, genders, ages, and abilities. Five security guards were on duty the day of your visit, monitoring all visitors and galleries. My understanding from an interview with one of our security staff and from video of the day is that you were invited to use the 2nd floor exit, so that you would not have to carry your stroller down the steps at the main entrance, which you used when you arrived. Here at the GCMA, we regularly offer Family Art Adventures, summer camps, and other programming for children, but when children visit the galleries with their families or as part of organized tours, they are, in fact, subject to the same rules as all other visitors. This is not discrimination nor is it harassment, which is a very serious accusation. Please consider visiting the GCMA again, if you should be in the area.

This was a good place to get out of the heat and get a bit of culture! Free admission, and a large selection of Andrew Wyeth paintings. We were reprimanded several times for getting too close to the paintings so just beware.....stand back!

Small but worth the visit. The building itself is very interesting. My favorite part was the Andrew Wyeth exhibit. The temporary exhibit of Masters from BJU was very nice, too.

Love the fact that there was no charge!
