Don't let the strip mall location of Sweet Basil Thai fool you. The atmosphere and the food are downtown-quality. The Pelham Road location does require you to negotiate a very busy parking lot, but once you are inside you will be glad you choose to dine at Sweet Basil. I have tried a variety of dishes on the menu; from the Tom-Gha soup, to the Curry dishes, to the crab and shrimp fried rice. I have enjoyed every single one. This is a very good place for a lunch meeting or a family dinner. Even if you are anxious about going to a Thai place, there are many choices and you can choose the "heat" of your dish on a 1-10 scale.

Sweet Basil is located in a shopping center at the corner of Hwy 14 and Pelham Road. The outside of the restaurant is very plain, but inside, it is clean and nicely decorated. It can be noisy, but the décor is authentic Thai and the seats are comfortable. We have visited twice and have been pleased both times. We like to order the Basil Rolls as an appetizer. Everything that we and our friends have had has been good. Service is attentive and servers are friendly and helpful.

There aren't many authentic ethnic restaurants in Greenville. Mexican food here is "fake" designed for Southerners who don't know any better and Chinese food is pretty nasty. For some reason, Thai food is not so bad and Sweet Basil is actually pretty good although the menu, unlike Thai Restaurants on the West Coast is more limited...example: no stuffed chicken wings. Other than that, the food is pretty good and close to being authentic. I took 4 of us there and had 6 dishes and the cost was pretty reasonable. Try it.

I'm new to Thai food so I was a little bit cautious. However, the menu is very good about describing each selection and some had little chili symbols next to them to let you know if they were hot or not. I asked lots of questions and the waiter was always able to answer them with a smile. Plus he makes a perfect martini!

This is by far the best Thai restaurant in Greenville. Great atmosphere and service. They always pay close attention to the way you prefer your dishes......hot, medium or mild.
