We were pleased with a number of aspects of our stay at the Sonesta Resort. The grounds and the pool were beautiful. The customer service at the entrance and the front desk was outstanding. The rooms were spacious and newly renovated with a great interior design. Despite hitting so many of the right marks however, there were two issues that caused us to question going there again.
First, the beach was very crowded. It appears that the resort actually shares their beach access with a large surrounding neighborhood. If you intend to rent chairs and umbrellas from the beach patrol at the access point be prepared to have large numbers of people setting up in front of you. If that kind of experience bothers you, your best option would be to bring your own umbrella and chairs and walk as far as possible to the left or right side to break away from the masses for some peace and quiet.
Second, while the pool is beautiful and clean, the poolside restaurant wasn't quite up to the standards of the rest of the resort, or other resorts we've stayed. The quality of the food and drinks was lacking given the cost, and one of the bartenders was rather short with her customers, which somewhat soured us on the experience at the pool. I might recommend bringing a cooler and packing a lunch for the beach and just using the pool for swimming.
Despite these two issues we encountered, we had a great time overall at this resort and would recommend it to our friends as long as they had the right expectations going in.
