We stayed in the presidential suite and it was very nice. When we arrived, we were pleased to find a plate of fruit and nuts waiting for us and at night they offered turn down service with chocolate on our pillow. The spa there is fabulous and I loved the decor of the hotel. The people were very friendly and the hotel kid-friendly.

It was nice, but not what we expected for what we paid!!! When we booked we were told we would be able to see the beach horizon from the balcony. We had to stick our heads out over the balcony and turn our heads it was a pain! The staff weren't even willing to work the problem out! Very disappointed for all the money we paid to stay here! The bathroom and shower was very small! The rooms were very over priced for what they really were. The pictures make it look a lot bigger and nicer than it really was. The pool was way to small for the amount of people staying there. We couldn't even find chairs to lay out by the pool, which was upsetting didn't get the chance to use the pool even once during the stay! The elevators in the hotel were very slow and outdated for sure !!! Defiantly need some up keeping! The other problem was that there was no parking at all! If you got back to the hotel after a certain time there were no parking spots open at all! For all of the people staying there, there should have been a bigger parking lot! Not everyone wants to blow their money on valet parking!!!

Stayed at the Sonesta for our family vacation. The location is perfect and just a few steps to the beach, which we loved. The staff is courteous, lots of smiles and eye contact. The pool is nice. Overall, very relaxing and family oriented.
We did not appreciate the 'no view' room overlooking the noisy air conditioners. Even if we chose a no-view room, we didn't expect a terrible view and a noisy balcony. Although the room was still quiet with the balcony door closed, the view was terrible. It wasn't a 'no-view', it was a terrible view. We requested a different room (no upgrade). They said they were sold out for the night and would change our room the next day. When I requested the room change, someone at the front desk said they would notify me the next day when another room was available. No one called me. I went to the front desk and they asked for my cell phone number. Once again, no one called. I went back to the front desk in the afternoon and they took care of it. This didn't bother me as much because we were out all day and ultimately got our room changed. Other guests may find this lack of attention unacceptable. In both rooms I liked that the bed sheets were very clean (Yes. I admit I scrutinized them every day for hair, stains or anything else) and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms, however, need more cleaning. The room was clean, the bathrooms just need more attention as well as the carpet (Needs to be vacuumed thoroughly every day). Also, the food needs A LOT of improvement. It is bland! We wanted to explore the island so we ate at different restaurants, however, the first night we were exhausted after a 14 hour drive and decided to eat at the hotel. The food was very bland and not worth the cost. Needless to say, eating at the hotel after that night wasn't even an option.
There are daily resort and destination fees in addition to the local and state taxes, however, I was aware of this additional cost when booking through Expedia. Read your itinerary under 'Additional Hotel Services'. No surprises there!
Overall a nice experience but a little pricey (room, pool, access to the beach and parking if the lot is not full - Everything else has an additional cost).

I chose this hotel based on other reviews, but I will gladly submit that the Sonesta has not been overbilled. Earmarks of the recent $30MM renovation were evident everywhere we looked. All of the staff could not have been more helpful, but front desk manager Kalvin and intern Emily made us feel special our very first night. It's just hard to single out one particular group, housekeeping, pool, bicycle rental personnel, bellmen - they all performed like they were part of a well orchestrated team. This property is definitely on our radar for the future.

Room Tip: if you're not a pet person, asking for a room on something on other than first floor might be a...

Usually stay at the Omni on Palmetto Dunes, but the deal and reviews on Sonesta were exceptional so we gave it a whirl. Very nice place and friendly staff except for one crabby bartender. Major drawback was no adults only pool. They do have a quiet pool but it is completly covered from any sun, so not a great alternative. No full length mirror in the guest rooms, and ours did not have a luggage rack, although the friends we were with had one in their room. Overall good experience, but we will stay at the Omni next time to better ensure a more peaceful experience.

Thank you for sharing your comments with us. We appreciate you trying the Sonesta for the first time and appreciate the recognition of our friendly staff. Here at the Sonesta, every associate aims to be personable and we are glad to know you were able to experience the service first hand. During the summer months, Hilton Head becomes a very popular destination for families which reflects the demographics of our resort as well. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the spring or fall season when there are opportunities to enjoy some quiet adult time. All rooms have full length mirrors located in the closet and we apologize for the luggage rack missing in the room. Your comments have been forwarded to Housekeeping to ensure we review our standard. Thank you again for your view and we hope to have the pleasure in welcoming you back in the future.

I stayed at Sonesta with two friends for a quick beach trip. We got a good price through Priceline and received a beautiful room, great garden view and wonderful service. The only negative - nothing to do with the hotel - is that beach access for Shipyard Plantation is at this location. As a result, the beach area can become very crowded.

Thank you for choosing the Sonesta Resort for your recent stay. We are excited to know you received a beautiful room with a garden view and wonderful service to compliment your stay. We do share the beach with the residents of Shipyard Plantation, our gated community. Although the immediate beach access area may naturally be more congested, with a quick turn to the right or left from the beach entrance will lead you to our less crowded beautiful sandy beach that extends throughout the island. Please remember our beach marker is 71A in case you are looking for the resort from the ocean. As you enter the resort area from the beach, Marker 71 will be ready to serve drinks and light snacks, providing a convenient food and beverage option beach side. Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to your return!

Based on my stay in 2013, I returned to the Sonesta again in 2014. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff is very friendly, polite, and efficient. I like the layout of the hotel and the access to the beach. The on-site spa is convenient and the food is terrific. The lobster rolls were awesome, room service is quick (the avocado/turkey club with shoestring fries was incredible and I had the chopped salad twice while I was there this time), and they always have cold water flavored with fresh fruit in the lobby. This year, I brought my dog. The "pet" rooms on the first floor are convenient to a pet potty area, but mine faced the parking lot so no good view. Having said that, if I had one of the pet rooms facing the pool area, my dog may have barked at the pool noises. Note that my room had a "back" door to the patio area where the pet area was - again, convenient, but the door could not be locked from the outside so I wasn't comfortable taking a longer walk away from the room. Lots of good walking areas on the property, however, including a little lake on the property beyond the pools on the way to the beach. The hotel provided a pamphlet listing the beach pet rules as well as pet-friendly restaurants in the area. This was fantastic - had breakfast at the Skillet's in Coligny Plaza based on this listing. Short drive to the restaurant and they had a pet menu - food for pet and people was terrific. The wash-off area coming back to the hotel from the beach had a hose for rinsing off the dog which was a very nice touch and very helpful. The Pearls gift shop at the hotel is wonderful - check out the jewelry case - very pretty, unique jewelry at great prices. I would definitely stay here again - with or without my dog.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise from the pool; spa is on the second floor - helpful to spa-goers; pet...
