“very nice resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2009

We just returned home from island links and just wanted to say that it was very nice and clean. We stayed in a 3 bedroom unit which was very spacious and the furniture was in great shape and I the best part was I didn't see any palmetto bugs while staying there. The Westin is where your beach access is which you can either walk, drive, or take the shuttle - we never had trouble finding a parking spot.
The pools are very nice and my only complaint was that the hot tub was way too hot.

Island Links by Coral Resorts

This was a nice resort with friendly staff. The check-in was fairly quick. After checking in, you are steered towards timeshare salespeople who try to sign you up for a tour. I explained that we already owned two and couldn’t use another and that was the end of it (no pressure). Our salesperson gave me a great deal on golf balls retrieved from course ponds by a diver he knows. For buying them, he also gave me some golf coupons which got my 12 year old son and I a round of golf with cart at an Arnold Palmer designed course (Crescent Pointe) for $54 (kids play their age - $12 for a 12 year old).

The units were well laid out, quite spacious, and clean. Ours was a three bedroom unit on the ground floor of one of the three story buildings. Generally, we didn’t notice noise from other units, except for the footsteps of kids in the unit above us that we nicknamed “the thunder kids”. The kitchen was well equipped, but lacked a kettle so we had to boil water for tea in a pot. The master bedroom ensuite bath was quite large with a big corner bath and large shower. We quickly bought all our own toiletries as there was no shampoo provided and the toilet paper and tissue were of poor quality. Bar soap was provided. The master bedroom did not have a window to the outside. It was attached to another bedroom by double doors which, if you left them open, would allow natural light from the adjacent bedroom. The sheets on all the beds were very thin or worn out. We raised this issue with staff, fully expecting that if all the sheets were like that, the problem would not be addressed. I guess that was the case because they only sent someone in to remake the bed – apparently with the same thin sheets. The beds were not very comfortable. One of our pet peeves was the lack of recycle facilities. They apparently expect people to take their recycle to an off-site recycle facility, should they chose to spend the time hunting for it on their vacation.

Each unit had wired and wireless internet access that seemed fast enough most of the time, but struggled with movie trailers. The signal strength is excellent as each room has its own wireless router and “network” (you join the network named after your room number). The main clubhouse also had a computer room, where I went once to print 4 pages of AAA maps on their black and white printer (complimentary). There were several terminals and I never noticed anyone waiting for one.

The pools at this resort were great, with excellent water quality. The smaller pool seemed a little warmer than the large pool, but both were very comfortable in the hot South Carolina July weather. Guests must supply their own pool towels. The nice thing about that is that you can tell if a chair is really taken, not just covered with pool towels by a group that has long since left the pool.

The grounds were nice, but not outstanding. The landscaping was nicer on the entrance driveway and around the clubhouse than around the units. Off our back patio, we had patchy grass and bare dirt that became a mud puddle when it rained. They should work on the gardening around the units. There seemed to be adequate numbers of BBQs, as they were never all in use at once.

The parking spaces in front of the units were unpaved and insufficient in number, especially around the three story buildings. We had to park in front of a two story building some distance away on a few occasions.

The resort seemed to have activities around the pool area, but we only attended the complimentary wine and cheese party, where they had door prize draws.

Apart from the pools, a small fitness room, and the computer room, this resort had few on-site amenities. Guests had access to the Westin indoor pool, fitness centre, and beach via a free shuttle; but these were off-site amenities – not exactly convenient. My wife and daughter took the shuttle to the beach once, but otherwise we went to public beaches. The resort is surrounded by a golf course, but it did not seem to be a part of the resort. The resort was convenient to the island’s extensive cycling path system.

In summary, this was a nice resort with friendly staff, but did not have the level of quality and amenities we have come to expect from a RCI Gold Crown resort. We think a Silver Crown ranking would be more appropriate. This was a nice base for a visit to HHI and we would gladly return.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2009

This was our first trip to Hilton Head, and we were unsure what to expect. However, upon our arrival we were pleasantly surprised and instantly fell in love with the Island. This resort is no exception. It’s very nice and certainly fits right in! You may notice that the buildings and whole complex do seem a bit tight and squeezed in, but that would be our only complaint. First of all, this is a timeshare property and as confusing as it is, this resort is sometimes shown as two different names. We found out (only once we arrived) the difference between the two. The ‘Island Links by Coral Resorts’ and the 'Island Links' are the same place, in the same location. The difference is the 'Island Links by Coral Resorts' represents the newest buildings built by the Coral Resorts Company when they purchased the property. They said that the older buildings have been remodeled but we didn't see inside one as we had reserved in the newer section.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom unit, and I can honestly say that it was very nice! The whole unit was laid out very well, with a large living room and dining room area that more than comfortably seats the maximum capacity of the unit (10 people). For once, the kitchen was well equipped with more than just 6 plates, 6 cups, 6 forks, and so on!! The furniture in the unit appears new, and actually has some decorative style to it. There is a wall mounted plasma television in the living room, and TV’s in all bedrooms. There is also reliable wireless internet throughout the unit, which we really appreciated! The bedrooms were a unique layout, but it worked out perfectly for our family situation. The master bedroom is connected to the 2nd bedroom via double doors in-between. This worked perfectly for us because these two bedrooms had to share the master bath. The 3rd bedroom is oversized with a small couch beside the bed and the bathroom connected to the bedroom. Refer to my pictures for further understanding of the layout of the unit. Overall, I would even say that we enjoyed the unit more than our home resort in which we own our timeshare!! The pool area is nice and a good size! Our children thoroughly enjoyed the walk-in style of the pool as well as all the umbrella fountains. This resort also has the dual benefit of the Weston Resort facilities which is about a 10 minute leisurely bike ride from the resort. This is something that a lot of other resorts do not have, and while we never used the Weston’s facilities, we did use and appreciate their convenient access to the beach.

The overall area of Hilton Head Island is gorgeous and very peaceful. Even though there are so many people on the island, especially during the summer months, you do not feel rushed or crowded because all the resorts and homes are set back away from the main highway inside the plantations. An absolute must do is rent bicycles! The resort has plenty of bike racks and there are numerous excellent rental companies on the island. We used Palmetto Bike Rentals and had no problems what so ever! There is so much to see by bike, which makes for many enjoyable nights or early mornings. The island has miles and miles of paved and well kept bike paths, most of them under the canopies of trees making it enjoyable even on the hottest of days.

There are also plenty of golf courses around. Be sure to ask the check-in office about coupons or discounts to certain courses around the resort if you plan to play a round during your stay! Also, what seems to become one of my biggest vacation tips: ask about any timeshare preview programs you can participate in during your stay. If you are in a situation that allows you the free time one morning, then this is an excellent opportunity for major coupon discounts and money incentives to fund all the fun activities around Hilton Head. They also have a lot of good deals right now just in case you actually are interested in purchasing a timeshare. We somehow got invited to two different previews and received cash, coupons, and free tickets to Daufuskie Island!!

We visited Daufuskie Island during our stay, which is a small island off the southern end of Hilton Head and about a 1 hour ride by ferry. We went on a Saturday, which in hindsight wasn’t the best day to pick! The ferry was very crowded and on such a hot day it was not exactly an enjoyable ride with so many strangers crammed in around us! Once you are there, the only way to get around the island is via rental golf carts which were enjoyable and necessary to get the most out of the trip. The island is charming and unique, but perhaps it’s just one of those things you do just to say you did. Needless to say we probably might have been disappointed if we had put out the cash to go for the day. However, I say just look up some information about the island and please decide for yourself!

Overall, this was a very enjoyable vacation for my family. As usual it was too short, and Hilton Head Island is somewhere you will want to return again. This resort is very comfortable for a family of any size, and the overall island has plenty of things to do for a week or even longer. I am unsure if there are other reviews of this particular resort out there, but just pay attention to the review dates! While at one time this place might have been a dud, it is certainly well above par now! There are so many resorts to choose from, and this one has so much to offer!
