We had a great experience staying at South Beach Inn. We were in 205 right above the office. The room was nice with living room, small kitchenette area, and private bedroom and bathroom. It was clean and comfortable. We could hear a good bit of noise from the activities in the courtyard, but didn't mind as it was great for the kids! We literally walked down one flight of stairs and right into the courtyard, Salty Dog store (not sure of the name) and all the activities. The pool was nice, clean, and pretty big. The beach was a bit of a walk but not bad unless you are carrying a load of stuff. We ate from the pizza place nearby on the first night, which was good, and had enough left over for our next days lunch. We had 2 large pizzas for 2 adults, a 10 yr old, and a 2 yr old. Another evening we ate on the deck facing the small marina at The Wreck of the Salty Dog, also in a 2 min walk from our room. From what I understand they have the same menu as the Salty Dog but don't quote me on that. It was good food and service was great. We liked that it wasn't as packed as the Salty Dog and no wait. We could hear the live band from the deck anyway. We went on a nice dolphin cruise on our last evening, which left from the marina nearby. We really had a great time out on the water and they were great with the kids! You don't technically have to leave the area unless you need gas, reasonably priced groceries, or fast food. They have a general store on site, but it is very overpriced. Our only complaint about our stay was the 6.00 entrance fee to Sea Pines. No one let us know that there would be a pass waiting for us at the information office (not at the villa check in) so we paid a gate fee then was told when we checked in that we needed to go back to the info office to get our pass or we would get towed. Well we went and got the pass but they would NOT return our 6.00. There is a breakdown in service between the villa and the gatekeepers because we should have been able to tell the gatekeeper where we were checking in and he should have directed us to the information office to get our pass. They will not refund, as we spoke to 3 different people. It's only 6 bucks but it was the principle of the situation. Other than that we had an awesome stay!
