“Perfect Place for Peace”
Reviewed 21 April 2013

This compact nature preserve is comprised of flat, pine straw walking trails through the pine and palm forest and also includes a short boardwalk trail and a good sized pond. Many of the plants are labeled, there is a comprehensive trail, flora and fauna guide too. There is parking on site. We saw a small gator enjoying the sun, a few birds ( Carolina wrens and others) and a black snake. If you enjoy nature and/or want a break from the beach, stop by the Preserve.

“A great nature excursion for kids”
Reviewed 12 April 2013

This was a smaller park, well suited for kids. There is a parking lot just inside the entrance, and then a short walk to the main water area. We saw 2 alligaors and some turtles in the water. The kids were thrilled. The paths are easy to walk on, and not very long. With 2 small children, it was easy to navigate the paths.

“An excellent nature area”
Reviewed 27 December 2012

The Newhall Audubon Center is a bit tricky to find but worth a visit. There are several trails, many with trees and plants identified. The trails themsleves were in perfect condition during our late autumn 2012 visit. There is a "drip" near the parking lot that attracts a wide range of birds if you have the patience to watch for a while. There is no visitor center, but there are many informative signs sprinkled around the property. It is hard to beleive this oasis is nestled right in the middle of a busy part of Hilton Head Island.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed 4 November 2012

With entrance off Palmetto Bay Road between Sea Pines Circle and the Cross Island, this preserve is tucked away. It is lovely and free, with a series of short interpretive trails and a great little guide that introduces visitors to the low country.
