“Pricey Food for an Older Crowd”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Ate here recently on a Sunday night with family members. The food is fine but nothing special and seemed a little expensive for what it was. The menu consisted of many items that featured peppercorns or Grand Marnier which seemed a little dated to me. On the plus side our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable and the people sitting next to us ordered a flamb'e desert so that was entertaining. The atmosphere was nice but when we arrived about 20 minutes early for a 7:30 reservation there were not many other diners although we had been told they could not seat us at 7:00. Will probably not return here on my next trip to Hilton Head.

“Didn't meet our expectations”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

We had high expectations for Hugo's, and unfortunately they feel short of being met. The award winning soups, were presented fantastically, but were "good", not award winning. Unfortunately they were unable to cook my steak to order after two tries, so I opted for a salad. Our waitress, Remi, was very attentive and funny. With so many restaurants on the island to try, I would not return to Hugo's.

“Huge disappointment!”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

We vacation at HHI several times a year! We have our favorite places to eat but decided to try Hugo's as we have read so much about it! Well from the moment we stepped into the outdated looking place to the moment we left it was a disappointment! The food is overpriced and we had the surf and turf! Tiny lobster tail and charred burnt flavored filet!! Yikes! One bright spot--our waiter was pleasant and fairly attentive! This restaurant is a has been!!

“I don’t believe we will return”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

We visited Hugo’s last evening with 16 friends for an early dinner. I was not successful in polling all of the participants but it appeared that most guests were pleased with dinner. We were assigned a side-room which they didn’t fill up until about 2 hours after we arrived. The restaurant was very crowded by then. There is plenty of parking and our waitress, Peggy, was entertaining and efficient.
I began dinner with a wonderful Low Country She Crab Soup ($4-99) followed by an overcooked Filet Mignon (6 oz. $34.99) with a lumpy twice-baked potato. My wife had the Crab Cakes ($19.99) which she liked but not enough to take the uneaten portion home.
This was a Wednesday Night and the establishment was very busy at 7:30, so a lot pf diners must be pleased with the place. I am thinking that it must have been a off-night for my steak.

“A little disappointing”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

The menu was lovely and our server very attentive and well trained. My dinner was very dry and chefs vegetables overcooked and dry. Had lobster truffles in pastry with no sauce and filet cut into medallions with no Demi glacé. Filet overcooked and without taste. Caesar salad and fresh bread good. Overpriced and will not return.
