Coligny Beach is possibly the best appointed public beach area I have ever seen.
The beach itself is beautiful - miles of sand along a wide beach. The water temperature is perfect, warm yet a little refreshing once you hit chest-deep water. Fairly gentle surf most days.
The facilities for Coligny are fantastic - a carpeted area takes you down to the beach from a lovely wooden walkway. There are lots of stations to wash the sand off your feet as you return from the beach. Then you hit some wooden pergolas filled with muskoka-style wooden chairs, some rocking style. Swing benches are also available along the wooden walk-way.
Public showers, washrooms and change facilities are clean and well-appointed.
Closer to the road is a children's fountain area with fountains randomly shooting jets of water.
The area also has wifi - all in all, pretty upscale.
Dogs are permitted on the beach - leashes required during the day in peak season, which keeps non-dog people from getting uptight. After 5, dogs are allowed off leash and can chase the waves and run around.
Last benefit: There is free public parking very close by and well signed (does it get any better, anywhere?)
