“Great stay- worked for us!”
Reviewed 6 March 2013

We went to spend a few days playing golf in HH. Used RCI points for 4 nights, and were very happy with our stay. With some trepidation due to some poor reviews from reading others. But, check-in was quick, convenient, with good directions.Used their excellant Gym. We stayed in the older "Springwoods" section which was only 2 B/R suites, very clean, modern and well equipped, exterior was aging. Convenient to restaurants, and only a short ride to some excellant golf courses off island in Bluffton. Friends were with us and they liked the stay also!

We visited the Coral Sands Resort in Oct/Nov 2012. We stayed in a 3 bedroom unit at the back of resort. On the positive side, the unit was clean and well stocked, the bed was very comfortable, and the main TV was new. On the down side, the unit was in serious need of an update. The plastic coating on the kitchen cupboards was peeling, the sofa was VERY worn and uncomfortable to sit on, and the decor was dated. When choosing this resort, we had read reviews that the units were updated but I don't think they got to our building yet. To be fair, this isn't our home resort and we rented through bonus points so I don't think we were considered high priority. We spent some time in the hot-tub and pool even though the weather was quite cool (Hurricane Sandy). The pool was shut off as of Nov. 1. The location of the resort is wonderful ... quite central and close to the ocean. We brought along our own bikes and spent a lot of time biking ... especially on the beach. One note of caution ... one of the units close to us was robbed the first night we (and they) were there. They had left a window open a crack and someone broke in during the night (while they were sleeping!!) and stole computer equipment and cameras. Having read previous reviews that this has happened, I think it is a regular occurance. Lock your valuables in the safe and lock all doors and windows if you leave for the day. Over all, we had a wonderful experience and Hilton Head is a beautiful place to visit. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: Try to get an updated unit.

This was our very first stay on Hilton Head. I am a HGVC owner but had some points I needed to use before they expired. So we converted them to RCI points and chose a two bedroom at Coral Sands. We were there in the middle of July so it was very warm.

Something we were not aware of is that within this property, there is a building called, Springwood. It is mostly owned privately but has some units that RCI leases. It really isn't part of Coral Sands but resides on the same real estate. It contains several two bedroom condos but is nothing like the actual Coral Sands resort. This is were we ended up, so I can only say that these accomodations are basically like a condominium, not like a resort. We saw some of the three bedrooms in the Coral Sands buildings and they were beautiful. We were told that since we booked so late, (7 months out) that the two bedroom units in the Coral Sands buildings were not available. We were very dissapointed in our accomidations. Although they had everything you would need for a 7 day stay. This unit was on the second floor but also had a stair to the third floor where the two bedrooms were. Both bedrooms had a full bath, but the second bedroom had two twin beds. This was not convenient for my daughter and her husband. You cannot move the beds together so you either have to sleep separately or try to both sleep in a twin bed.

The location is excellent. We did something we haven't done in many years. We rented bikes to ride around the island. Just be aware that a three day rental isn't really three days. My daughter and son-in-law came for the weekend so they rented for three days. Well, you get the bikes on the first day. Just so happened that the bikes didn't arrive until the second day. They missed delivering their bikes on the first day. Then on the third day, the bikes are removed very early in the morning. So you really only get maybe a day and a half from a three day rental. However since the company made the mistake, they did not charge my daughter and son-in-law for their rental.

The seven day rental worked better. Our bikes were there when we arrived and were picked up just before we left on the last day.

Just a note, you cannot (at least we couldn't) ride your bike onto Sea Pines Plantation without having to pay. You have to take your bike into Sea Pines by car and then you can ride around there. Or, though we did not try it, I think if you decide to ride your bike onto Sea Pines, you have to pay $5 to ride your bike through the gate. It also costs $5 to drive your car through the gate.

The Coral Sands Resort is nice in that it has a nice pool and lazy river, but we weren't thrilled with the accomidations. We plan to return to Hilton Head as it's only 2.5 hours away. But I probably won't be staying at Coral Sands unless we could be assured of staying in the Coral Sands resort and not Springwood.

Hilton Head Island has everything you would want as far as restaurants and shopping. It's very easy however to miss your turn. Traveling during the day is easier, but since they keep the lighting low at night, you might miss your turn. Also the signs are below the level of the trees so it's easy to miss what you are looking for.

All in all, it was a very good trip outside of the accomidations. Hilton Head Island has done a good job with all of the bike trails and bathing facilities. I look forward to making a return trip.

Room Tip: Try not to say in the Springwood building. It's a good walk to the pool and the accomidations ar...

This was our second stay in the 'new' building for Coral Sands. First visit in August /12 was ruined by upstairs family that let their child run around at ungodly hours so we didn't get anywhere enough sleep. Staff visited 3x and still no change. No consequences given to them for ruining our trip, despite staff telling us they could be fined, it didn't happen. Second visit in Oct /12 we found cockroaches in our first floor unit on the first day... gross! Not a good way to start your vacation. As the week progressed we also discovered that the pool and lazy river that they spend so much time bragging about was NOT heated...in October...and it was freezing. Manager admitted that the board decided to save money and not heat them between Oct & March...so fair warning to anyone visiting. And also need to mention the annoying wake up calls we received on the day we were to check out. Maid service 'remotely rang our door bell' at least 6x between 7:30 & 8:30am ... and we didn't even ask for a wake up call! There was no mistake, they were just hoping to get us up and out of the unit before the 10am check out time. NOT impressed!

We loved our week at the Coral Sands. We had a 3 bedroom, 2 bath unit. The unit was clean and had plenty of space for the six of us. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, dishes, etc. The pool and lazy river were wonderful. The resort provided us with 6 beach/pool towels. We rented bikes from a company recommended by the resort and rode the bikes to the beach. It was about a 5 minute ride. The bike paths in Hilton Head are great! Overall outstanding stay! We chose not to attend the time share presentation, so I can't comment on how it was.

We were confirmed into Coral Sands Resort by RCI. When we got there they put us into Springwood, an adjacent property that is older. We exchanged into two units. We called two weeks ahead and were assured we would be in adjacent units, they put us into adjacent buildings. The mattresses had stains and they had to get a cleaning crew in to clean them the next day. The cleaning crew did a good job. When we asked why we were not in Coral Sands, they pointed to RCI and RCI pointed to them. We were told we would be in a gold crown resort, Corals Sands might be, but Springwood is not but they say it is an equivalent resort. We were told the units had been refurbished, they had new mattresses, the other furniture was old. The furnishings look nothing like what is shown in the pictures on the web, they are older and dark. There was a drawer missing in the kitchen, they said the Formica had pealed and they were fixing it. It did not appear the entire week. The air conditioner worked, but not well. We discovered the problem the last day. The filters were extremely dirty. They really need to hire a cleaning and maintenance crew that will look at more than just the surface.

It will be one year ago come August 27th, 2011 seven of my cousins and myself spent a week at Coral Sands. From the beginning we were treated like royalty! Upon making our reservation I explained this trip was a very special one. One of our cousins was diagnosed with brain cancer and the prognosis was that she had 6 months to a year to live. Upon entering our condo it was obvious it had been chosen with TLC and more than met our expectations! A beautiful butterfly balloon had been placed in the center of the table with a welcoming note attached. After two days I experienced a near death experience with my heart and spent three days in the ICU. I could go on for hours about the compassionate and loving way of which we were treated at Coral Sands and their outstanding staff. Today I am waiting for our cousin to pass at any given hour. Our memories of our stay at this wonderful resort will remain in our hearts forever! Thank you to representatives of Coral Sands and one particular staff and new friend, Susana Cook. Written in loving memory of our cousin, Rita Hornback.

Room Tip: They are all lovely!
