If you have mobility issues:
This building requires you to climb stairs, even on a first floor unit. The bedroom is small and whoever sleeps closest to the wall will have to crawl out over their partner or out via the foot of the bed as there is no room to get out on that side. If anyone in your party has serious mobility issues, this may not be the unit for you.
My wife, my 9 year old son, and I take a beach vacation each year, renting a vacation condo. This year we decided to take a second trip (we'd went to Amelia Island this Spring Break) but because we hadn't planned it ahead of time wanted to travel on a stricter budget than we normally do. Thanks to this unit, we were able to do our entire trip on less than we normally spend on lodging alone. While the unit did lack some of the attributes of the $1300-$1800 units we normally rent, the trade off in cost savings was well worth it, making the last minute trip possible, and we're very happy with the unit and the vacation.
First off, we really appreciate an easy check in. The check in building is very easy to find, is well marked, is where the GPS says it is, and after hours check in is soooo simple. That started the vacation off on the right foot.
Finding the unit itself is also very easy, the GPS coordinates are correct, and the buildings are clearly marked. The guard at the guard shack was very helpful as well. The unit is on the left side of the building, but park on the right near the stairs in the middle. That puts you much closer to the unit than parking on the left, as the stairs are further away on the left side of the building. Parking on the right puts you almost directly in front of the unit.
The unit is small but has everything you need. We brought our own beach chairs and toys, but there is a closet that contains those items if you choose not to. There are two bunk beds in the hallway, a fold out bed in the living room sofa, and a master bedroom. My son liked the bunk bed, but complained it was too bright. There is a sidelight window next to the front door and there's no curtain, so the outside hallway light does keep the bunk bed area fairly bright at night. If you're little ones are scared of the dark, that might be a plus, but otherwise it would be better if there was a curtain or some way to close off that light.
The bathroom is in the center of the unit and the source of our biggest (although still minor) complaint. The exhaust fan doesn't work and just hums without moving the air. If you leave it on for very long, it trips the fuse. The fuse box is directly in front of the front door if you make that mistake, by the way. Given that the bathroom is in the center of the condo, you can see where this might be an issue. Take a can of Febreze or the like and you can overcome this particular issue.
The bedroom is clean, uncluttered, has adequate storage space, and has a comfortable bed. It is small, and as mentioned above you can't walk on both sides of the bed. For most people it's not an issue, but since I had some serious knee issues several years ago that limited what I could and couldn't do until (mostly) resolved, its always on my mind and I mention it in case you have mobility issues.
There is cable television and wi-fi access for relaxing at the end of the day.
The balcony overlooks the parking lot, but you can see the pool area and are within eyesight of the dunes at the edge of the beach. The sliding door is very difficult to open.
Now, for the absolute best part about this unit. It's about a 2 minute walk to the ocean. Walk out the right side of the building, walk to the boardwalk, past the pool, and you're on the sand. The beach is clean, and at least when we where there wasn't crowded. Other than the view, its in the perfect location. Very quick access to parking, pool, and ocean is greatly appreciated, and of course an ocean view would add to the price. The pool is clean, well maintained, has adequate chairs and has multiple shaded areas as well. It has a large 3' deep area, a smaller deep area, and a separate kiddie pool.
Check out is equally simple as check in. A simple "take out the trash, give us the keys" is pretty much it. No "pile bedding here, pile towels there, do this to the dishwasher, that to the refrigerator" check list here.
All in all, the unit does involve some trade offs (view, no in-unit laundry, etc.) but represents an AMAZING value and is untouchable without spending $300+ more AT LEAST. If the exhaust fan, lighting in the hallway, and sliding door issues were addressed it would be a 5/5 for sure. Compare the cost of comparable units with their higher rents, cleaning fees, booking fees, etc. and it becomes easy to see why this place is such a value. If you're willing to make those minor trade offs, you can save a lot of money and still have a great vacation.
