“Great Place for a Weekend Getaway...or to Get Married :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014

In early April, my boyfriend and I made a reservation at the Red Horse Inn for a much-needed long Memorial Day weekend getaway. We booked our stay at the Stables Cottage, as we were planning on taking our dog with us. Mary called shortly after we made the reservation to get the name of our dog so that she would be able to give her a proper welcome when we arrived.

Three weeks later, my boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to get married at the Red Horse Inn during our stay. I called Mary and asked if we would be able to change our reservation to the elopement package, even with the short notice considering the holiday weekend. Mary gladly changed our reservation for us, including changing our cottage to the Grainary Cottage. Mary was most helpful in providing recommendations for wedding officiants and hairstylists, as well.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a cheerful Mary. We discussed details of the property, our cottage, the wedding, and our wedding-night dinner, as well as information about Landrum and the surrounding area. Mary also gave us our Waterfalls and Winery Tour package information.

We drove to our cottage, and were immediately astounded by the beauty and serenity of the property. Each cottage sits by itself and has so much privacy that you would never even know that other cottages were on the property. At our cottage, we were greeted by a welcome card on the front door, which was such a nice touch. The cottage was just beautiful, and it was quite amazing the amount of detail that had been put into decorating it for that perfect romantic feel. The refrigerator was stocked with a variety of wonderful breakfast items, including parfaits, breakfast burritos, quiches, muffins, and fruits, all of which were delicious. We also had added the Champagne and Chocolate Strawberries, both of which were awaiting us and were fantastic. The strawberries lasted us a few days, as they were huge...and quite tasty.

The next day we got up and began getting ready for our wedding. Per Mary's recommendation, I had my hair put into an updo by Kelly at Kapell's. Kelly did an amazing job! We then went to the main house, where we were greeted by Mary, Roger, and Danielle Baker, our wedding officiant whom Mary had recommended. It was a beautiful sunny day in the low 70s, so we had our ceremony outside, overlooking the mountains. The ceremony was very intimate and romantic...simply perfect. Danielle was absolute fantastic, and we would highly recommend her!!! Roger took amazing photographs before, during, and after the ceremony that captured everything from us signing our marriage certificates, to the wedding ceremony. Of course there were many post-ceremony photographs as well, and he even took some fun photos of us by our car with an iPhone that we later used to tell our families and friends our great news. We did elope, after all :)

Later that evening, we were served an amazing meal in our cottage. We had the filet mignon, which, like all of the other food, was fantastic. We got a bottle of pinot noir with dinner, and cheesecake and the flourless chocolate cake for desert. It was the perfect end to the pefect day!

The rest of our stay, we relaxed, drove to various antique shops, and did our waterfalls and winery tour, although we could have easily just stayed in the cottage and enjoyed the peacefulness of it. We began every day with coffee on the back porch, and ended every night by relaxing in the hot tub.

This bed and breakfast is not like any other bed and breakfast we have ever been to. It is so unique and wonderful. We cannot recommend it highly enough!!! It is evident in every detail that Mary and Roger absolutely love what they do and put tremendous effort into making their guests feel happy, comfortable, and welcome. We will definitely be back at least once a year to celebrate our anniversary!!!

I was visiting friends in Landrum, South Carolina and wanted to stay in a location near their home. The Red Horse Inn was the closest, so I booked there after reading the glowing Tripadvisor reviews. It is everything the reviews state and more. The property is very large and has a remote location as well. By the time you have navigated the very long drive you are treated with a majestic view of the mountains and the very pleasant architecture Roger and Mary built themselves and manage professionally. I stayed in the Stables Cottage, probably the least luxurious of the cottages, but ideal for my visit. It's upstairs located over the stalls where Secret, Mary's dear horse, calls home. Sometimes I could hear Secret stamping on the floor of her stall and every morning she came out for a good rubbing and petting. She was good company. The Stables Cottage was quite roomy, well built, well built and gave total privacy. I was busy with my friends the 3 days I stayed at the Inn, but others could follow the tours and events Mary can recommend. It's got to be one of the ultimate get away from it all sites that I've enjoyed.

Room Tip: There are 3 types of accommodations at the Red Horse Inn: Luxurious Cottages, the Stables Cottage...

Innkeepers Roger and Mary have created what many of us only dream of - a true work of art located in one of the country's most beautiful regions. The attention to detail in every aspect of the Red Horse is truly awe inspiring, from the superb land planning and landscaping, to the architecture and finish detail of the Inn itself. And it can all be attributed to the commitment and dedication of the owners, whose primary goal is to ensure their guests have a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
My wife and I look forward to many return visits!

Through the years I've traveled I-26 and always wanted to take the Landrum exit. My husband and I wanted to get away for a couple of nights, and through our internet search and Trip Advisor reviews we found The Red Horse Inn. We had no idea what to expect, but we were so pleased with our visit. Our one bedroom cottage was perfect! We enjoyed the rocking chairs on the front porch in the evenings and the side deck in the mornings. I initially thought if we wanted breakfast at our cottage we would have to bring our own, but Mary prepared our breakfast and already had it placed in our refrigerator to heat when we wanted it. It was the perfect answer to a relaxing morning! I don't think we've been anywhere that was so peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed our days in Landrum and driving through Tryon and Saluda. Coming "home" to The Red Horse Inn at the end of the day was ideal. We will definitely come back! Thank you Mary and Rodger!

Room Tip: The cottages are definitely our first choice, but the inn is fabulous too!

Idyllic setting, very clean, comfortable and well appointed cottage (Huntbox), lots to do, friendly and accommodating staff, and we could bring the dogs which lowered everyone's travel anxiety - ours and the dogs'! Would definitely visit again. Perfect for weekend getaways (2.5 hours from northern suburbs of Atlanta), weddings or reunions. It was worth the trip just for the breakfast muffins!

Room Tip: Huntbox is dog friendly and has an upstairs loft if you're traveling with kids. But VERY clean...

My husband and I were married at The Red Horse Inn and spent three nights in the Springhouse Cottage for our honeymoon. Roger and Mary were endearing. From the moment we stepped into the Inn until we left, they were always available to meet our every need. We chose the elopement package, and I can honestly say every aspect of a perfect wedding was provided by Roger and Mary. The wedding setting inside the inn, the flowers, cake and champagne...all provided by the most gracious host and hostess in the world, the wonderful four course dinner served by Roger that first evening in our cottage, the chocolate covered strawberries, the breakfast casseroles, the fresh fruit (our refrigerator was filled with delicious food for our three day stay), our early morning and late evening walks around the inn...we can't say enough about our visit to the The Red Horse Inn. To sum it up, I asked my new husband as we were walking around the inn grounds one evening..."Have we died and gone to Heaven, without knowing it?" We would recommend a stay with Roger and Mary at The Red Horse Inn for any occasion to experience "A piece of Heaven on Earth". Plus they have the horse to go along with the special ambiance already provided by the inn. Don't miss Secret! She is probably one of the inn's best kept "secrets"! What a lovely horse! What a wonderful three days! It was definitely a piece of Heaven on earth!

Room Tip: The inn did not have a swimming pool or fitness center, but who knew. Our personal hot tub was just...

We spent 3 days at Red Horse Inn and did not want to leave!! It was fantastic! We stayed in the Grainary Cottage which was beautifully decorated, very cozy and stocked with everything to make our stay comfortable. Loved being able to eat breakfast in the cottage and on our own time schedule. The grounds are exquisite and the views fantastic. Mary, Roger and staff are very gracious hosts and really go out of their way to pamper guests. We had pizza in the cottage one night and it was delicious. Mary is a good cook! Thank you, Mary and Roger for creating such a beautiful place to escape the hustle bustle of everyday life and relax.

Room Tip: All of the cottages are beautiful and very private.
